    Breaking in a snuff box??

I picked up a Patrick Collins box from Nicotine Rush last week(my first box), and am pretty surprised at the tight fit. So tight, in fact, that it's very difficult to open and close, let alone actually fill with snuff and use.

I understand of course that this is by design and that such a tight initial fit is necessary. Any break-in tips, or is this something that just takes time?

I got one recently and at first it was a very tight fit, which I was happy about since I want to make sure fine snuff will stay in the box and not end up in my pocket. It loosened up pretty quickly but not so much that it will leak. It's been a couple weeks and I don't use it all the time, so if you use it regularly for a couple days, it should give you a tight fit that isn't too tight pretty soon.

All of my boxes loosened up after about a week of daily use. My oldest one, going on 18 months now, with a year of that being a daily carry piece, is loose enough that I worry about it opening in my pocket. It hasn't done it yet, but I worry.
I would suggest no break in except use. It'll be fine after a few days. Just be careful how you open it between now and then. Spilled snuff is something to cry over.

I accidentally put a smash box full of rooster in my pocket without closing it once. I just didn't wash those pants and wore them for the next three days or so. I would stick my fingers right in the pocket and snuff at my leisure. Probably put quite a bit of dirt and pocket lint up my nasal cavities, but at least I didn't waste that shit.

I got a Heartwood box a few weeks ago and got so frustrated with the tightness of it that I've pretty much given up on it. I'm assuming warm humid weather is not the time to use these boxes and hope it will be better in the winter.

that's some funny shit! I might have to give that a try... Skip the box/tin/bullet all together and just dump a day's worth of snuff in my pocket when I get dressed in the morning

I filled it up with some Toque Cherry Menthol and took it to work today. It is loosening up bit by bit, so I'm getting there.

                    Thanks for the help fellas.

If it gets too loose, Pieter(from Snuffhouse) put a bead of superglue along the edge where lid is, and it tightened up nicely. You want the bead to dry in place before you slide the lid back of course :^D

Mine didn't loosen up enough for me to open it without great effort until I very carefully sanded the lid. Now it's perfect, but you could easily make it too loose if you're not really careful.
