    neti pots

i dont snuff anymore, but i just got a neti pot anyway, to try to see if i can clear my sinuses out a bit more and basically just improve my overall health. though i cant get the water to come out of the more problematic nostril. when i pour water into it, it comes out the other side just fine, but when i pour into the good nostril, nothing comes out the bad one, my shit fills up and overflows over the back of my throat. i feel like i might need functional endoscopic sinus surgery. or just to use the neti pot more.

    anyways,

I have had the same thing happen. I think it means you have a deviated septum.

I've always wanted to try a neti pot, as I have horrible sinus issues, and heard that a quick rinse or two with a neti pot will help. Where can I find one, guess I could just purchase one online, but wonder if say Wal-Mart would carry one? Where'd you get yours Daruckis??

neti pots don't work for me, for much the same reasons as the OP. So in my opinion they are a joke......

They take a little getting used to. First of all the feeling is unnatural. It only take a half dozen uses for that to normalize but if you're clogged up already it might not work.

Try gently adding a little of your own air pressure by exhaling a little to help the water flow. If you exhale too much you'll blow bubbles back into the pot. Also you can probably change the Ph of the solution by altering the salt that you put in the water (google for amounts).

For me, the neti pot works great for snuff snot, or should I say snuff crud but in the case of allergies not so much. I think that the lining of my nose reacts to allergens by swelling (perhaps to let less allergens into the nose) and not by a foreign blockage. My neti pot will not help this much to my dismay. I'm glad I got one though as when it works I feel great. If you have a good cleansing with one of these then go immediately to your snuff...the pinch will be great with a totally clean nose.

              WTF is a neti pot?

Sounds like I need one... I'm stuffed up quite a bit lately.

I usually use some McChrystal's Medicated and it clears me up for a little while though.

I used to use a neti pot but have since switched to the squeeze bottle since it's much more efficient and much less likely to give you an ear infection. IMO it does a much better job of flushing your sinuses too as your head isn't too the side. Here be the one me uses but there are others:

if I can't get the water through the bad nostril I usually try to break it up with something else and then use the neti pot.. (Some menthol cough drops orally seem to work)

I did that when I used a snuff that really clogged me up. Had to throw that snuff away to make sure I didn't use it again. (tried it twice to make sure it was the snuff)

Most Walgreen's stores seem to carry a cheap one for about $13, and it comes with like 50 packets of saline mix.

For those having problems with it--I kinda have an issue too where one nostril is more active than the other at any given time, and they seem to switch off from time to time during the day. But for me, dry toasts seem to clear my sinuses, where menthols tend to plug me up a bit.

So I just do a small toot of something toast-ish about 10 minutes before I want to do the neti pot. Works great.

Same here. The squeeze bottle I find to be much easier and efficient to use.
