Do you ex-smokers still occasionally miss smoking?

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if you ex-smokers still miss smoking once in a while?

The thought crossed my mind last time I was with my Grandpa. He is in his 70's now, and he had a 2 pack a day habit for damn near 50 years (he literally started smoking when he was a child). He has since quit (thank God) and has quit for around 10 years. I was driving to the market with him, and he started patting his front chest pocket, I asked him what he was doing and he replied, that he was "looking for his smokes". He told me he realised after patting his pocket that he quit smoking, but almost everytime he jumps into the car he is searching for that invisible pack of smokes within a few minutes. He laughs at himself, but still admits that he misses smoking once in a while.

Do you guys experience anything like this, or do you guys occasionally miss smoking? Maybe he is only this way because he was a smoker for so many years.

    Cheers,

I still smoke the occasional cigarette, but I wouldn't say I miss it when I don't have smoking tobacco available. I don't have any autonomous cigarette actions that I know of.

It's been nine years now since I've quit. I was a pack a day, everyday for nearly 15 years. The first two or three years I craved them but it faded after that.

Now I only have a desire to smoke when I'm extremely pissed off. It's to the point that I know it's a self-destructive behavior so I abstain 'cos I don't want to make that associative relationship. I do have a butt with my brother from time to time but after a few puffs I know it's not for me anymore. The taste left in my mouth is terrible, IMO.

I have cravings for snus at times...but then I pull out a can of snus and have at it. I guess there are times that I crave a snus just like I craved a cig.

Perhaps, I should suggest snus to my Grandpa if he is bothered by his desire to smoke. Still though, I don't really think suggesting any form of nicotine to a man who has been "clean" for 10 years is a smart idea.

I have cravings for snus as well. After I wake up, my can of redbull and my can of snus are the first two items I go for.

Also, that's pretty darn great that you guys have been able to quit the smokes. Congrats! You'll enjoy a longer life for it.

I still think about it a few times a week, when I am drinking I really think I need one. I find a snus sorts it out though or a few pinches of snuff then I am all good.

It's the absolute reverse for me: when I'm smoking I crave snus, as I'm not getting enough nic.

I've started smoking a few fat cigars a day - not because i need to but because i want to.

Yes and no. I miss the action, I don't miss the side effects. For the action the e-cigs help. For the nicotine, snus is there.

I smoked for 30 years then found snus (and now dip) and the last 2 cigs i had in the last 2 years I could not even take a second drag. My lungs did not want it and it tasted really awful. Nope.. don't miss 'em.

It took a little over 2 years but I don't crave or want cigs anymore.

I hate cigarettes, but as soon as I have a few beers in me and everybody smokes around me I start craving them, and more often than not, ask for a smoke. It's so pointless, because right after I've smoked it, I pop in a strong snus to get some nicotine in me. I think I'll get an e-cig to replace those stupid drunken cig times. Snus works perfectly, but a smoke when drinking feels "good" in some strange way, even though I know it's just BS. When I'm sober I never crave cigarettes. NEVER.

                            Is the Pope Catholic?

I don't crave the cig's.... what I miss is the first thing in the morning rush... you know, that first smoke of the day? From time to time, I still crave it!

It took a while to get over the smoking cravings. Now I crave snus or snuff when my body needs nicotine.
