    Oliver Twist Original review

While not a snus, these would seem closely related, as they are smokeless, spitless tobacco products that are made in Europe.

I happened upon a tobacco store that was selling these next to my house. I had seen them advertised on several different snus websites, and the owner kept talking about how difficult they were to get (these were the US flavors, not the European ones). I decided to grab a pack of Original, since that is one of the same flavors that is available in Europe, and it appears to be the exact same thing.

I opened the somewhat expensive little box, and inside was a vacuum sealed pouch that had what looked like tiny, brown, shiny tic-tacs in it. I opened the pouch, and took a wiff. My first impression is that it smells like an odd beef jerky. When I got a closer look at them, I was suprised to see that it looks like small bits of beef jerky as well.

The package said to tuck it between your cheek and gum, and leave it there. I did that, and could not taste anything, even after 15 minutes or so. I then read the webpage, and it said you could chew it to get the nicotine faster and have more flavor. I chewed it a bit, and this strange, thick sugary-jerky-tobacco taste ran down the back of my throat. Not quite unpleasant, but strange. I chewed it until the twisted bit of tobacco came a bit open, and tucked it back against my cheek. They also said on the website to leave them in for an hour, as they continue to give off nicotine.

I have not really felt much of a nicotine satisfaction from it, and in fact, after about an hour I had to immediately take it out and pop in a sterk portion. The website says that it is a rolled up tobacco leave that is then sugared, twisted and then cut into the small bits. It also claims that there is no added nicotine, so it maintains its natural levels. If this is true, I can see why I am not getting much of a nic hit from it, since it would only be a small fraction of a tobacco leaf (maybe the equivelent of 3 or 4 puffs from a cig worth of tobacco). If it is not raised for maximum nicotine yield (like I believe the sterk snus are), then it would be lacking.

These really don't seem satisfying at all, the taste is a bit off (and mine was well in date) and they don't really even have much of a nicotine punch. They are also fairly expensive, costing more than most cans of snus. About the only positive I can say is that these truly are discreet. They sit inside your mouth with no noticeable bulge in your cheek, require no spitting and would appear to be candy to someone not specifically looking for it. That's about the only reason I could suggest these. Other than that, if you have no reason to need to be discreet in your tobacco use, I suggest to avoid.

My wife loves Oliver Twists (Tropical BTW)

She uses them when she can't smoke.

Around where I live the C-stores started carrying sample packs that they were giving away so I tried the original.

    FFFFAAAAAAAAAAACCCCKKKKKK!!!!!

Musty tobacco is all I tasted, and rather sweet at that. Tropical isn't half bad from a taste stand point. More anise tropic, but still good.

As for the nic hit? I never could use them full time unless I threw three or 4 in. Pretty low on the vitamin N scale.

I have no interest in trying Oliver Twist. Even if chewing the tobacco gives out more nicotine, I would rather save the hassle and throw in a strong portion.

Yeah I'm with you on that one. I'm getting through packets of Oliver Twist very quickly(needing at least three at once), but good news, my buysnus.com order is coming today .

I didn't really get any taste from it either, only when I had it in my mouth and was kinda sucking on it.

              jackolantern,

Where in Houston are you buying snus? I'm just outside of Houston and would be interested in knowing where I could pick some up instead of mail-ordering it. What about pricing? Do they have a good selection?

Me is more interested in Swedish Match's General and Roda Lacket tobacco cuts. OT's are a little too sweet IMHO.

I have never tried them. Too expensive. That was before I knew they used sugar. So, double no now. To the one guy from Houston, order sum snus and pick up the OT from Northerner at the same time.

When i used OT I would use 2 pieces to get a good nicotine hit. I would put them in my mouth and prior to putting in my cheek i would give is a few light chews to release the flavour.

Sure at first the little tobacco juice it does release will be strong tasting all tobacco is strong tasting.

My issue with OT is that the flavouring is too sickly not the tobacco. So i can only really do 1 day on it, after a while i get sick of it. That being said i have only used the tropical flavour which is aniseed.

I would keep in my mouth for 2 hours periodically chewing to milk it.

I still keep some OT for an occasional chew. But snus is better in my opinion. Well a different experience.
