Having trouble convincing a smoker to try snus?

I've met a few smokers who really want to quit but shy away from tucking a 'tobacky bag' in their mouths -- initially. (Conventional/approved patches and gum were ineffective for them.) I offer these wannabees Stonewall Java and/or Wintergreen (the Natural comes later if they're interested in more of a straight tobacco taste); this is something discreet they can feel comfortable with. And I suggest they check out snuson.com's forums for much information (and entertainment).

I said initially because, if they really want to quit, they invariably want to experience the higher nic hit that Swedish snus can offer. Then it's time for a couple 'snus bags' and the address of a few websites.

This is a lot easier than trying to sell something that can be repulsive initially to an ingrained smoker who is not much into unorthodox experimentation (after all, this ain't your daddy's weed). And it makes you out to be 'a good guy' rather than 'that weirdo with the tobacky pouch' in his mouth.

Of course, if they're not averse to 'bagging it' I just skip the Stonewall and go for an appropriate snus for that individual. (Gotta say, though, that Stonewall can be a welcome treat for the all-day snuser.) Chacun à son goût -- To each his own!!

I love a Stonewall Java first thing in the morning. I could not do them all day, but in the morning the sweet coffee flavor seems appropriate, and tastes better to me with my morning mouth than snus does. Of course after I wake up and come to my senses I spit it out and get some real tobacco in there.

I occasionally use them for a change-up in the daytime;
great with coffee, even Java Soda or ice cream!

I'll also tuck one in if I think I might doze off while reading;
or at bedtime, even. I especially enjoy the Stonewall Java
and the Natural.

Where can you buy them in Mass.?

I've heard they're available at some Rite-Aid Pharmacies but
I've had no luck with them, Walgreens or CVS. You might
have a better chance on the Cape, or the Boston area if you
get up that way. Just don't expect to find them with NRT
products (Nicorette, etc) since they are not FDA approved
as such (and can't be sold in the same space).

My supplier was one of the online Indian purveyors effectively
shut down by PACT. Don't know what I'll do when I run out
'cause I do like them along with my various snus. Hopefully
Northerner/Getsnus might be convinced to carry them since
they are U.S. based. ::hint::

An easy way to save $$$...

I never bothered with Ariva; they're the same price as
Stonewall but only have 1.5 mg nicotine per tablet..

Whenever I want a lower dose, I just cut a Stonewall in
halves (2 mg) or quarters (1 mg) with a neat little pill cutter.
In fact I cut some up ahead of time and keep the pieces
in the pill cutter 'compartment'. These pieces come in handy
when out-and-about and you want a quick fix for only a
short time and don't want to waste a whole pebble. They
really are 'discreet'!

One of my bosses at work who smokes has been totally brainwashed by the anti-tobacco rhetoric. He won't use snus because he thinks it's just as bad as cigs. Keeps saying he's gonna quit alltogether. But never does. I'm gonna buy him a 5-pack of stonewalls and see what happens.

Try a 5-pack each of Java and Wintergreen -- less chance of him saying yuck!
And don't forget to tell him it's under $20 per 100 tablets!!

I'm going to echo that Northerner should be carrying Stonewalls and Ariva. I've had no luck finding them in my area. Haven't tried them as I'm very contented with snus but I would if I could get a hold of them. Might be good for times when I really need to be discreet.

I think this is a good idea. I can see how some smokers would find Stonewall/Ariva "less weird" than snus since it's more like a breath mint. I like Stonewall myself--not as much as snus, but I had been using snus for a while before I first tried Stonewall.
