I agree. Can't stand the stuff. But then, I really like Perique, which some other pipers can't tolerate. Ain't it great that we're all different?

I've noticed that if you gravitate toward strong flavors you tend to like latakia, i.e. spicy food, scotch whiskey, dark roast coffee, red wine, etc.

While I primarily enjoy English and Balkan blends due to the Syrian or Cyprian lataka, I also rotate some pure VA blends and VaPer blends as well for a change of pace. It is rare that I will fire up an aromatic pipe tobacco blend though. Most bite like hell and always leave a nasty goo from the topping in my pipes.

But that good is great when it's smoking in the bottom of your pipe you get some nice flavours and a great nic hit. I like spicy food and roast coffee but don't like latakia.

Agree with almost everything above XD I smoke pipe, more so in the summer than winter since I cant smoke inside. One of the reasons I actually picked up snus was because its so freaking hard to smoke ANYWHERE now days. But when I do smoke pipe, I use a Church Warden, sheerly because i love the cooling effect it has on the smoke due to the long stem, and I look really epic with it too. My passion is snus, but a pipe is always a fun thing to smoke and the taste is truly unique. I only get tired of the after taste smoke leaves in your mouth, which is why I prefer snus.

that's the main reason I stopped smoking pipe. I actually bought it for an eventual smoke on the weekends.... usually aromatic...tobacco ...

It shouldn't Precious... try experimenting with your smoking technique ie. breathing out your nose etc if it's hurting your throat that's bad news. I smoke a pipe when the weather is nice and i can be bothered or else i snus.
