About 12 years ago I meandered into the Dunhill store and the gentleman in the humidor recommended I try something he called simply 22,000. It's a aromatic that smells like a cake in the oven. Probably one of my favorites ever since; if I feel like smoking aromatic it has to be this one.

Hi Rick,
OJK (as all the hep cats like me call it) is a strong burley-Virginia-perique blend made by Cornell and Diehl. The main component is a mix of cube cut burley and dark burley, with a huge chunk of perique - the blend's creator, Bob Runowski, confirmed that it has around 25% perique. That may sound excessive, but it really works in the blend. The blend is rounded out with red Virginia, which gives it some good backbone and offers some flavor change down the bowl. It burns like a champ, kicks pretty hard, and tastes great to me (a bit peppery at times, bitter but balanced by the Virginia). It is a particularly good one for people who also like cigars, as it offers a similar experience to a strong cigar, if not the same type of flavor. It's around $30 a pound in bulk at some of the online vendors, and worth jarring up. It's a bit rough when fresh, but really improves after 6-12 months.

It's definitely worth a try - the perique meshes very well with the burley and Virginia, even at that high concentration. Two other variants they make are Night Train (less perique, pressed, and with a sweeter Virginia base, and plenty of kick) and Three Friars (much less perique and little burley). If you do like codger-ish burlies, some people swear by Haunted Bookshop (OJK with the perique dialled way down), but I haven't tried it. Riverboat Gambler has more Virginia, less perique and includes a good dose of Turkish (and lots of Vitamin N); a great descriptor I heard of for that one is hot and sour soup - it is a spicy and tangy blend. In any case, I am a huge fan of C&D's work, so they would certainly be worth looking into. Their new 5 O'Clock blend is a red virginia base with some perique and Kentucky, and I look forward to trying that one, too.

I agree (I own some dunhill pipe tobacco but I haven't smoked the pipe in over 2 years!) - Early Morning Pipe was my favourite ... really nice latakia - but also a light blend. Not the mental nicotine monster that is nightcap!Squeezyjohn
Sometimes wrong and sometimes right .... but ALWAYS certain!!!

I like Old Lodge. It is a house blend by Pipe and Cigar (part of their Adirondack Series I think). It is a good strong Latakia (English) Blend but not the Nicotine bomb that say a Night Cap is. It is Virginia light oriental and Latakia....no burly or Perique
Not only that it is a great price
Worth a try if you like a heavy Latakia blendWhen it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers
