nicotine content of hooka?

can't say I like hooka smoking, even before I used nicotine, I didn't feel anything from it, but that might be because the intake is much slower and I didn't notice.

I tried to look this up, but the only info I found is that one typical "session" has the tar of 13 cigs(no nic-statistics given)

anyone have any idea? and also, any anecdotes about this semi-popular tobacco usage appreciated.

The only thing i have heard is that it seems smoother, because hte water cools the smoke, but in reality it is worse for you. I guess people think that the water acts as a filter, but it doesnt :?:

The water in hookahs filter out alot of the tar, along with the nicotine. I was never a fan of hookah, even when I smoked cigarettes. As well, all the flavors taste horrible. Once I smoked a peach-flavored tobacco and wanted to vomit from the flavor. Hookah is more about socializing than anything. I don't know too many people that smoke it alone.

My mom's side of the family is from Lebanon, and my uncle and cousin both have hookahs. It's definitely a social event, because of how much work it is to set it up, get it going, and clean it afterward. There are some good flavors and plain tobacco, it's just finding what you like and works well. It definitely is smoothed out by the water, and I'm not sure about the statistics on tar or anything. You're inhaling smoke, but just how bad it is I'm really unsure of. I doubt it could be that bad for you unless you do it frequently, but that goes for all smoking where you inhale. As for nicotine content, I'd imagine it'd be fairly low. I've never gotten a buzz from it, even after not smoking a stogie for a couple weeks and having no nicotine in my system. As I said before, it's more a social thing than for getting your nic fix.

I own 3 hookahs and when I was a cig smoker hookah did not replace cigs. Hell there was times I had a cig or 2 during a hookah session. I still hit a hookah now and again but I find now that I do not smoke cigs and have not for some time I can not take huge rips like I did in the past.

I use to love smoking hookah, it just depends on whats exactly going on. By myself, no thanks.. around a couple of friends.. hell yeah, thats where the fun is. I can't say I ever got a buzz from it or anything, just a nice flavorful smoke.

I could be wrong, but from what I've gathered 'shisha' is so loaded with fruit and molasses and stuff that the amount of tobacco (and therefore nicotine) in a bowl is pretty minimal.

I don't know the ratio of tobacco to molassas and whatever else, but cigarettes have a fairly small amount of tobacco too. I think it's the mix of ingredients and the way it's processed and blended, along with the way it's consumed that affects the nicotine dosage.

Where I live in the san fernando valley, CA, they have had hookah bars here forever, some of them in a club type environment, others in an outdoor persian restaurant style environment. Very popular out here, its more about social interaction than anything, you get a litle nicotene but its not like something you would do alone or on your lunch break lol. Its jsut something to be shared w/ dinner or an apetizer when chilling with friends.

I like Hookah/Narghille personally I like the flavors but some people aren't a fan and I could see why. its a predominately middle eastern past time, its like drinking a beer with friends.

I never cared for hookah smoking personally. For a couple of years it was a big trend for poseurs (sort of like Oxygen bars) and it was always the lamest dorks in the back of the Cigar bar (yes, the guys in the back are even dorkier than the guys in the front) "hitting the shish!".

Now, when I've been among friends that were smoking actual tobacco out of a hookah (yeah, most of my hookah experience has been with another substance as a teenager) it tended to be pipe tobacco. I'm not a pipe smoker myself, so I found the tobacco quite mild and with barely any nicotine. As someone mentioned above, shisha hits you a little stronger but the taste is rancid to me. No matter what variety of shisha I've tried it tastes like honey and marijuana residue that you scrape out of the inside of a pipe or bong. No wonder those guys are always blowing themselves up and attacking their neighbors- if I had to smoke that shit to "relax" I'd be going all Jihad-like myself. (< Sarcasm )

I like smoking the pipe, smells better, cleans easier, and the setup is easy as hell, nothing like a good 40 minute smoke nice and quiet, and you don't have to worry about other people forgetting to close off their hoses.

I haven't smoked the pipe or hookah for a couple years now, I'm happier with snus.

I have a hookah but I can only use it when there are at least 3-4 people around. My gf smokes but the two of us can't keep it going on our own. I can get a buzz from it but if its just me and her I go hypoxic way before then from trying to keep it lit...

Another reason my transition to snus has been glorious. Hassel free set up and I don't need anybody else to do it, FTW![/i]

Umm, I am finally reading this thread. I started smoking a hookah only recently. And at my hookah bar, they say there s no nicotine in the smoke. Is this normal??
