I spent like $50 for mine. Truly amazing deals to be had on the classifieds on SF. Just most folks sell a bit below market there, taking care of the community and such.

I hadn't expected to get one either until I saw this one on sale

So what's happening with your Snus?

I find myself Snusing all day at work, a pipe when I get home, more snus, then a pipe before bed.
      Weekends more pipe then snus.

Did you see my post about my usage a few weeks ago.

even without the pipe, I had always known I was using more snus than I "needed" for nicotine purposes. Had just learned to chain snus out of habit. Now that I am smoking a pipe, I need to save some money for pipe tobacco, so set out to find a level of snus that met my nicotine needs, that never left me feeling like I was missing anything, but could maybe cut down how much I was using.

For the past two weeks, I have gone down to 7 snus a day, that is about half of what I used to use, feel great. In many ways, I appreciate my snus even more now. But am now able to significantly cut down my snus purchases with all the money saved going into buying pipe tobacco to put away for 5+ years.

I generally am smoking two bowls a day, once in the afternoon, and once before bed. Some days, I may smoke three bowls, just depends on mood. I suppose if I star smoking more, my snus usage would dip even more as my focus really is just using enough of whatever to keep me minimully supplied with nicotine.

One thing I don't like about the pipe, is it kind of pollutes my mouth, and messes up the snus flavor. I have to wait awhile after smoking it before I can really enjoy my snus.

I haven't noticed that at all, I love my snus right after a pipe. But I use either whites or Nick & Johnny black.

What kind of tobacco are you smoking???

1/2 bowl of Erinmore, but otherwise the rest of my Prince Albert I was using for cigarettes. I'm waiting on the Erinmore to re-humidify. It'll probably take a couple of weeks to do it slowly. I still have some aromatic that was my favorite when I smoked before. It's called Ambrosia, and it's from a tobacco shop that's long gone. I don't know where it really came from. I haven't tried it yet, but when I checked on it a year or 2 ago, it was still in good shape.

Interesting. The Erinmore is just a Virginia and Burley mix, so nothing that should really impart any strange taste to your snus. Again, throwing in a white after I smoke just tastes normal to me

It's not so much the flavor, as just heavy smoke. My mouth feels like it's coated with smoke for a little while after smoking a pipe.

I get that as well. If I put a pris of general in right after it tastes a lot like a cigar. Doesn't bother me really.

Start with the pipe you want. Doesn't matter, within a month, you will have several more. Ideally, you need at least 7 pipes if you smoke every day. Briar needs time to "rest", That is, briar retains moisture, ideally a week between smokes gives it enough time to fully dry.

I have bough 4 pipes from the classified section on Smokers Forums, a 5th I bought off e-bay, and one was gifted to me. None of my pipes were more than $50, most half that or less.

As for the tobacco, although many folks start with an aromatic, I would highly recommend you investigate some English Blends, some Virginia's, even a straight Burly like carter Hall, available from any drugstore.

But most important, welcome to the wonderful world of pipes. I am extremely grateful I found it. although snus will always be my bedrock, what everything else I use is built upon, and I still snuff almost as much as I used to, pipes are just something amazingly special. the time I spend smoking a pipe has become absolutely precious to me. I have found a relaxation and peace with it that is difficult for me otherwise.

Standard smoking advice....smoke slowly, sip the pipe, don't huff it. Don't "try" and keep it lit. Relights are common even for folks smoking for 30 years. The pipe should never get hot. If you can't leave the pipe touching your face for 5 seconds, it is too hot. Slow it down and let it cool

And especially for aromatics, let it dry for about 30 minutes before you smoke it. I just use an old snuff tin to let it sit out. If the tobacco is too moist, it will cause steam when you smoke it, that is what causes tongie bite (literally burning your tongue). NOT fun or pleasant.

Good to see it's going well, Sage. I've been enjoying it as well, coming along quite nicely.

I've greatly enjoyed the Frog Morton's and GL Pease, my next order has

                            Escudo
                            Butera- Kingfisher
                            Butera- Pelican
                            Balkan Sasieni
                            Esoterica- Penzance

                            Can't wait to try them.

Still sticking with corn cob pipes, for some reason I like these, they're cheap, and I'm waiting to invest in something better, holding off a little while.

I plan to only use it in the evenings - an end of day treat. I don't think I'll do it more than that because I don't like lingering taste too much. Snus is great in the way it leaves your mouth clean.

Just waiting for it to arrive now tum ti tum ti tum ti tum..........
Definitely let us know how it is going for you. Since snus is so closely tied to my pipe use, I would love to create at least a small subsection here of folks who do both. Although I love SF, snus use there is VERY rare, so much as I prefer to talk about my snuff use here, I would prefer to do the same with my pipe use.
