Still sticking with corn cob pipes, for some reason I like these, they're cheap, and I'm waiting to invest in something better, holding off a little while.

GL Pease Haddo's Delight and Frog Morton's On The Town. Both were the two most commonly suggested for those new to pipe, so those were the two I went straight to when I started my first order.

OMG, I picked up a three year old tin of On The Town from my local tobacconist a couple of weeks ago, my first aged tobacco, really, really like it. And the Haddo's Delight is on my list for tobacco order after the next one.

I actually keep a spreadsheet for tobaccos I want to eventually try. Unlike snus, just too many to keep track of in my head.

Haddo's Delight is great. I heard a suggestion to "age" it a tad before smoking, so I popped the seal, put the lid back on, and let it sit, and the smoke tasted a bunch smoother and more flavorful than first smoke.

I love On The Town, I'm trying to remember who praised it so much, I wanna say snusdog, but not sure.

That is not "aging" Chad, that is drying, also a good thing (in moderation). Aging is when you leave the tin sealed (or transfer to a mason jar) for 3 months, 6 months, 2 years, 5 years, 15 years, or even longer. The aging process actually only happens in the absence of Oxygen. If you give it Oxygen, the aging stops until the Oxygen is used up again. The Tin of Frog Morten I bought was tinned 3 years ago, still the original seal. So it had "aged" for 3 years.

But any tobacco you smoke should be dried for 15 minutes to 30 minutes, no more. And once opened, a tin should be smoked within a month. Tobacco that is "right" should have some springiness, without crumbling. Too wet, and you pinch it together, it just sticks together without springing back. Too wet is what causes tongue bite, that is caused by steam being created as you smoke. Bad thing, trust me on that. :wink:

No Ulsterman, posting is good. I found when I first started with this I was almost a bit overwhelmed with all of it. So trying to put some of into words was useful.

VERY happy the pipe is working well for you.

Next, go to tobaccoreviews.com. and look at the tobaccos by ranking. Look through all the reviews of the 4 star rated tobaccos, and pick a few that sound interesting to you.

The journey is just beginning, enjoy the ride. :wink:

BTW, the "standard" advice for loading a pipe is to load it in three parts, the first part, press it like a child, the 2nd part, press down like a woman, the third part, press down like a man. A well loaded pipe should be just a bit springy to the touch

I'm not sure Ulsterman, I just read the reviews of Erinmore and folks talk about it as being a very strong smoke. Best advice, join up over at Smokers Forums and ask there. I promise you will get WAY more recommendations than you could ever get here.

I am happy and proud to say that I am a new lady piper. I heard Sages' siren song in his pipe posts, and thought it would make an excellent addition to my tobacco arsenal. I guess you could call me one of Sages' first converts :lol: . I am now completely happy in my nic use....with snus, snuff, and my pipe.....I no longer use cigarettes or an e-cig, and I feel much better. I look forward to all the learning and growing that I have to do with my new pipe passion...as well as all the snus and snuff left to try LOL.
