Sorry Wiz.....I have already disposed of all my vaping stuff. If I still had it, I would most certainly have given it to you.

Sage...I had to give credit where credit is due. Your posts made the possibility seem so real for me, that I had to at least try it. I tried it, and liked it.....all because of your enthusiasm in your pipe posts.

Bravo, Deanne59. I remember you from threads on the e-cig forum. I've said before on that forum that I smoke two or three pipe fulls a day. And those are highlights of my day. Glad you found pipes.

I'm certainly a snus and nasal snuff user and fan, and currently have been testing super-powerful 48mg whole-tobacco-alkaloid e-liquid in my five e-cigs. Vaporizing and inhaling that stuff will put you UNDER the bed. It's a liquid cigarette!

Overall, I'm a happy camper with this routine (which also centers around Java Stonewall dissolvables), so I get powerfully upset when Uncle Sam's minions propose laws that could keep me from my needed nicotine sources and cigarette alternatives.

Hello TB!!!! Glad to see you again. Yes, I learned early on as a brand new member here that I HAD to have nicotine to function, and the PV wasn't cutting the mustard. I have been doing fine on snus and snuff, but the addition of the pipe has added an extra "enjoyment" factor to the mix. Yes, I need the nic, but the pipe allows me to relax and actually enjoy the tobacco for what it is, and how it was meant to be.

I just found my American Spirit PowWow blend tobacco, and I'm really digging it in the pipe. I got it 20 years or so ago, but didn't use it much because it's a PITA to roll in a cigarette. I might have just found my favorite pipe blend :^)

The Pow-Wow Blend is a ceremonial pipe blend of additive-free, whole leaf, natural tobacco and the following pure herbs and botanicals: Sage, Red Willow, Bearberry, and Yerba Buena (spearmint).

lxskllr, 20 years ageing on thatb tobacco?? I suspect you would love most any tobacco that has been aged for 20 years. Truly almost a holy experience I imagine.

I am buying twice the amount of pipe tobacco I need to smoke to put half of it away to age for at least 5 years. Any extra money also goes into putting tobacco away.

deeanne59, pipes have become a passion for me. if my excitement and joy encouraged you to at least give it a try, I am very pleased.

You're doing good Ulsterman.....stick with it. Yes, leaving tobacco in the bowl for later can leave that "ashtray" taste....even though needing to relight DURING your smoke is normal. I have been enjoying my pipe more and more, it is just taking a little while to get my technique down better. If smoking a partial bowl is working better for you....go for it! It is all about your enjoyment of your pipe and your tobacco.

Ulsterman, a couple of points I think I have failed to mention...

If this is a new pipe, it is gonna kind of suck for the first 15 to 20 bowls. A pipe must be "broken in". It is generally recommended to smoke just a Burly tobacco to break in. Prince Albert or Carter Hall, both available from the drug store, are great for that purpose. But please, please, do not make any final decisions about if you like until after the new pipe is broken in. What it tastes like when new is NOT what it will eventually taste like. Just something to suffer through. A reason why many, many folks just buy "estate" pipes (meaning used)

(And Qor, if you are reading this, something to consider, even if I would benefit from your decision. )

And are you letting the tobacco dry before smoking it??? Most tobaccos should be left out for about 30 minutes if new before you smoke it. This will improve flavor and make it much more smokeable without any tongue bite.

I'm glad it is starting to get better. I didn't understand your comments about he taste before I realized you had a brand new pipe. I apologize for missing that part earlier.

I would just leave the tobacco out for 20 minutes before you load the pipe. More surface area, better drying of the tobacco. I use an empty 25 g tin of snuff for that, others just use a paper towel or paper plate.

Starting out, gmuch, much better to go too dry at first. As things start coming together, start smoking it a bit less dry until you find the perfect "spot" for you

Sage, I just went out and bought a pipe and a pouch of Carter Hall, and it's all your fault.

Now I'm going to need some better tobacco and some more pipes...

LOL, I can't tell you how much it pleases me to hear that.

Good first start on the tobacco. Now, go to smokers forums, register, and start reading the New Smoker's section. Will make your life SO much easier. Plus, check out their classified section, many, many great pipes for not much money. I just bought one of the two best pipes I own for $25. Have already bought 4 pipes from there, extremely pleased with all of them.

btw, if you do register, also go over to the introductions section and introduce yourself, tell them that it was my fault too.

"Smoke your pipe and be silent; there's only wind and smoke in the world."
                                -Old Irish Proverb

I quit smoking the pipe years ago, I don't remember why now.

I must say, there's not much better than star gazing on a late night with a warm bowl and good friends, comfortable silence and good smoke.

I may have to go get a new pipe, I don't know where my old one is  :x

I had a couple and I don't even know how many bowls I smoked out of 'em.

No one ever taught me how to smoke the pipe, I got all my lessons the hard way.

I do remember the smell from my youth, my friends grandfather smoked, good Irish stock. In his sleep he breathed like he smoked.

I guess next month I'll have to break in a new pipe, I never tried corn cob, always burl, time for a change
