Any other pipe smokers who have used snus to cut down on smoking?

I smoked cigarettes for 13 years, quit and didn't smoke for about 10. A couple of years ago I started pipe smoking daily. I enjoy a pipe still every once in awhile, but have been snusing for the past couple of months and don't have a desire to smoke my pipes. I'll still enjoy a pipe by the campfire, but snus is in my daily routine and works out much better at work and at home with the wife.

I was smoking a pack and a half a day for 32 years . started snusing three years ago in those times when I couldn't smoke. The last six months has been snus only. I am so glad I got away from the cigs.
My mind is like a bad neighborhood. I don't need to go there alone.:biggrin-new:

I have found snus and the pipe to be a perfect match. I use them in roughly equal amounts, 2-4 snus a day, and the same number of bowls per day. It's the ultimate in tobacco synergy, with few health issues, and handily keeps me far away from the cigs. Plus ordering a hundred bucks or so of pipe related gear and/or tobacco usually results in a shipping cost of--zero. And a hundred bucks worth of even the highest quality pipe tobacco goes a very long way. $100 will buy 10-12 tins of pipe tobacco which will last me at least six months since I use less than a quarter of an ounce per day. Pipe tobacco is at least as economical as snus, if not more so, and there are blends, Irish Flake for instance, that deliver nic in amounts easily equal to strong snus. Win x 3 as far as I'm concerned.

I've often heard pipe smoking described as a hobby, and it makes sense. There's a great pdf floating around the internet called A Smoaker's Handbookwith great information on just about every aspect from experts. I got interested after I ordered some pipe tobacco a few months ago, instead of getting my once-a-year pack of cigarettes (I quit in the 90s, but there's something about them in winter for me).

To me, the pipe tobaccos I got were so much better than cigarettes, I even made a few tasty, anemic-looking cigarettes with it (I've been improving with the little roller thing). Anyway, I wanted to know more (like how to actually keep a pipe lit) so I googled and found A Smoaker's Handbook.

I'll post a link in my next post, as I'm new and still need to get one more post in before I can put up a link.
