    Exploding E-Cig!!

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46401133...th-addictions/

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Fire officials say an electric cigarette exploded in a Florida man's mouth, severely burning his face and knocking out some of his front teeth.

..North Bay Fire Department Division Chief Joseph Parker says it appears the cigarette's battery exploded while the man was smoking Monday night. Parker likened it to a bottle rocket going off in the man's mouth. He also lost part of his tongue.

Parker says the man had been using electric cigarettes to help him quit smoking.

Authorities don't know what model cigarette it was.

The victim is being treated at a Mobile, Ala., burn unit

If you stack batteries to get 6v on an ecig mod, this^ may happen. Otherwise you're safe as houses.

Lithium batteries are no joke. Add shoddy Chinese construction on top, and anything can happen. High tech "tobacco" ftl.

I don't see the point of the E-Cig, what's it for when we've got snus and snuff, it's beyond me

In general the mods that are very popular with e-cig users are not designed for safety. When a battery goes into thermal runaway nothing is going to stop it, and all Lithium batteries can do it. Remember all the stories about lap top batteries starting fires.

A fire is bad enough, but what the moders have done is put the battery inside a metal tube. This is your basic pipe bomb if a battery goes into thermal runaway. That's the major problem because instead of just a fire you now have an explosion. Most of the mods come with vent holes but they are pin size. They can't vent nearly fast enough.

You can design an e-cig to be relatively safe, or at least a good deal safer then what many of them are now. You need lots of ventilation in case of a runaway battery.

I've been over at ECF today and have found nearly all the moders have gone into defensive mode. None of them want to admit their might be a problem.

Yeah they are kinda ridiculous but do help a lot of people cut the smokes. I would of never found snus if I hadn't found the e-cig first. I also have seen some good friends of mine quit smoking and nicotine but still vape 0 nic juice. I prefer snus hands down, but the ecigs are great for bunches of people IMO.

If all addictions were high tech like e-cigs, I wouldn't have any!! Technology scares me so I have no desire to try e-cigs..BUT it is unfortunate for this to have happened and the antis are definitely going to eat this story up and regurgitate it into their messages
