E-Cigarettes As Good As Nicotine Patches In Helping Smokers Quit

Good news for vapers. This is a medical study that places e-cigs in a positive light. And the study has been given at least some attention by the main-stream-media.

"Smokers who switch to electronic cigarettes to try to kick their habit are at least as likely to succeed in quitting or cutting down as users of nicotine patches, according to research published on Sunday."

That's not good news. Patches are useless at best. LOL. Snus is the answer.

There's rather a lack of info on the methodologies of this study. It is likely, for instance, that the group using ecigs were supplied with crappy convenience store cigalikes whose lack of efficacy compared to more advanced gear is well known in the vaping community. At a rough guess those who pursue vaping seriously have a long term success rate of 50% or better but it would not be easy to design a study that could accurately determine that success rate given the large number of variables involved.

Snus was not included because the study was about non-tobacco methods of smoking cessation but unfortunately it would be hard to design a study gauging the success rate of snus unless the grotesquely awful American products were excluded. Not going to happen with studies conducted by clueless academic researchers and/or irretrievably anti-tobacco bureaucrats whose agendas, hidden or overt, are largely in service to the goal of banning/taxing everything containing nicotine.

When I mention that I use snus to someone the answer is always, "oh, like Copenhagen?" or similar.....ignorance, I know, but that is the default perception here. Time may be on Snus' side as far as public relations, that is eventually word of the harm reduction will continue to spread and popularity will grow.
