I can speak of the e-cig experience in my household. My wife quit smoking with an e cig at about the same time I quit with snus, about a year and a half ago. She has only used 510s, only change was going from the standard battery to the extended longer battery. Regular atomizers and cartridges that are refilled. Tried cartomizers, didn't like them.
The two sites that we have made all of our purchases have been either through www.esmokeronline.com or americaneliquidstore.com
They are both first rate and highly recommended.
Initial start up cost around $100. Monthly cost probably an average of $30 over this period of time. Compared to a pack a day at $6 this is a big win.

Aftera couple years of vaping, I always recommend people to go with eGo batteries as they are much nicer to use than regular tiny batteries, and have the standard 510 size fitting which can be used with a wide variety of atomizers/cartomizers. Definitely read up in the e-cigarette-forum.com. Great inexpensive and reliable suppliers I use in the states are http://www.cignot.com and http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/. Start out with a regular (non-tank style) eGo kit and you just can't go wrong.
After two years of trying out loads of stuff of varying quality and price, my daily rig is eGo XL batteries (1000ma) and 510 XL Clearomizers. Inexpensive, reliable, almost no maintenance, and very portable.
Best tobacco flavors: from http://www.freedomsmokeusa.com: Purecig & American Spirit.
But all of this you can find out from http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/, its like the snuson forum of the e-cig world.
