CreteCoater ironically your opinion matters to RJR more now than if and when you develop a taste for the "real" thing. Altria and RJR don't focus group test their products on veteran snusers because they know two things. One is that veteran snusers are an infinitesimally small percentage of smokeless users in this country and two is that the typical flavors of scandinavian products are not likely to impress the targeted market of American smokers who, being American of course, will choose sweet over any other flavor consideration just about no matter what. After all relatively few smokers have ever tasted tobacco that has not be set afire first so they have no idea how it really should taste. The few who aren't automatically seduced by candied tobacco frequently gravitate toward the very different tastes of real snus as witnessed by the large number of forum members who took that very route to Swedish snus.

Camel Mellow and Marlboro Amber were similar in taste. I'm waiting on a Nasal Snuff order right now and am planning a snus order.....I will be starting a new thread with some questions.

I have tried the Skoal Mint. It is not too bad... But the pouches are way too big! Hard to stuff them up in your mouth.

The flavor was pretty good though. Had it in for about an hour. I think it is OK in a pinch.

The Marlboro snoose in the can is decent IF I had no real snus. If it came down to it I think I would rather dip...and coming from someone who dipped just once in his life and got sick...thats saying alot about just how crappy Marlboro & American Camel snus is.

I used to use camel frost. I used it to help quit chewing, and for a time I actually liked it. When I first started using it I really liked the flavor, a very sweet icy mint, I was going through a can a day, but whatever they have in that stuff was really irritating my lip and I had to rotate spots, and then I started getting sick of the taste, became sickly sweet to me. One day I noticed a general fridge at the tobacco shop and that was the end of camel, first general portion was wintergreen and the nic knocked me on my ass.

After discovering real snus, I never had any desire to go back to camel, or try any of the other american varieties. I'm not sure you can even call marlboro snus, as I believe it is fire cured and it uses a 'flavor strip' inside the portion.

I started with camel frost too. I thought it'd be a great alternative to dip while I was in class and at work. Turns out I was right. After searching more about snus, I found SnusOn and it opened the flood gate to Swedish Snus. I have gone back and tried both the new Marlboro and Skoal varieties, but I never made it past 1 portion of each. The Marlboro is just flat out awful. The Skoal wasn't too bad in taste, but still overly sweet. The Skoal portions were too big to fit comfortable in my lip and it felt like a pillow. I ended up tossing the Marlboro and giving the Skoal to a friend who was just beginning his snus stages. He's tried some Swedish snus that I gave him but he's still adjusting to the salt.

i wont go into detail about each brand but i have tried each and everyone of American snus.

The other day I bought a can of skoal (smooth i think) mint.

The good: Of all the American brands I have tried they are the best. If I ran out of real snus that is what i would go buy to hold me over. They are *very minty* and they seem to be good enough in the nic department. I won't try to explain the nic but as crazy as it may sound, the nic delivery is strange, different some how.

The bad: The portions are humongous in size. In weight the portions are i belive 1.1 grams which is a little heavier than most swedish snus portions. The "tobacco" seems loose in the pouch not like most Swedish brands. I am not a small person, 6' 4" and 220 lbs but i have to really work that thing up under my lip.

Its too minty but I can handle that ok. It's way-extra-super-duper-too-sweet and seems like zero salt. I know some people are looking for mint, sweet and no salt but to me it gets old quick.

if you are the curious type, buy a can. If an upper lip packed with a high dose of mint, super sweet and no salt sounds good then run to the store right now. If you run out of Swedish snus and its gonna be a few days, then get some. Those are the only reasons i can think of to buy the stuff.

Far as *all* the other American brands for sale today I can't think of a use for them. If Marlboro rich was being handed out by blond Swedish girls i would probably accept them to be nice. Then throw the things away because they taste so bad. one has to experience them to understand how bad they really are.

So there I am at 7-11 buying lottery tickets that likely will not win $200 million (or anything at all) and what do I spy but MARLBORO SNUS in the round can at a price of $2.09. Against all good judgement I bought the Original. Came home and placed one in the upper lip. Less than 5 minutes later it is forcefully ejected yet the rotten taste remains. Why didn't I listen? I've had some Swedish snus that I did not care for - wintergreen or cranberry, for example - but I could get through the can for the nic and know I'd never buy it again. No way with MARLBORO, it is destined for the trash.

Im no Veteran snuser by any means .. started out with camel frost (eventually tried all flavors many times) hey the tins are neat for spare change .. etc but the Marlboro snus was the worst of the bunch dry and irritating. Think i tried 2 of the 3 portion trial packs and said never again !! have also tried both skoals mint and smooth mint not too terrible (if you dont mind feeling the need to spit every few mins) so after probably a year of this American "snus" I decided to research a little on it..looked around locally for sweedish stuff and found General White and Wintergreen portions to greet me ...im lovin it.

Anyone have any experience with the Skoal's Snus? How is the nicotine compare to say something like Grizzly's Dip, is it stronger or the same?

"True snus" is not currently within reach so my choices are either american snus or dip.

                      Thanks.

Haven't had it yet, but snus is nothing like the american dip....
