    Copenhagen Snus

    Is this new?
I wonder if it will be just like the Skoal product.

    From the US Smokeless website:

We need to find out the moisture content.

I hope it's about 50%. Better yet, why don't they just pay SM to put Grov Portions in a Copenhagen-labeled can?

I hinted about this back in December. Here's what we know about it:

Aside from a few employees of Altria, nobody has tasted Cope snus. I don't know if it's good or bad, or what it tastes like, etc.

Production is being held out until the sales of Skoal snus reach a certain breaking point. This is why you haven't seen a non-minty Skoal snus yet- the plan was to have Copenhagen as a "natural" snus and Skoal as the "minty" snus. If it catches on, you can bet that Altria will scale down the entire Skoal/Copenhagen line into just two or three flavors.

Again, this release depends entirely on the sales of Skoal snus. If you really want to see a Cope snus, then cross your fingers and hope that the Skoal snus sells better than it has been.

@internope: Altria's not going to list any specific sweetener on their website. It's considered "proprietary" information and thus falls into the blanket category of "natural and artificial flavors." It could be full of sugar or sugar substitute, or it might not be. My guess is that it's going to be like regular Cope: full of sugar, but masked by hickory and smoke flavoring.

They list the sweetener sucralose in the ingredients for the mint and the wintergreen.

Very interesting. I was hoping U.S. Smokeless would go more toward the Cope route on snus. A natural flavored, done-right snus, with the Copenhagen name on it should see moderate success. I envision something looking, smelling and tasting something like a Grov WP. They definitely should not hinge their decision to proceed with it or not on the success of Skoal, though. Their first two attempts at snus have both been with the name and flavor profiles of Skoal. In my opionion, both have failed. Do it right and put the most recognizable name in the world of smokeless tobacco on it.

Is Skoal snus selling bad... or good?

I hope its a little stronger than the Skoal.
