He had a long career behind him as a cancer specialist and was clinic director at the Karolinska University Hospital when he began working at Swedish Match 2006th

Now he takes another step in his career. Swedish Match enterology spokesman Lars Erik Rutqvist will now become a counselor in the U.S. FDA. There is a doctor from the world's smallest publicly traded tobacco companies now have the ability to act as an adviser to Obama.

    - It is an honorable mission that I have received. It has not been a Swedish citizen in the foreseeable future anyway. Their economics department received some perplexity, not knowing how they will pay travel expenses for non-Americans, "he told Dagens Industri.

Barack Obama's administration would have scientific data to determine law. The committee, which he now will sit in to advise the FDA in the tobacco field.

Right now, the authority is in the middle of a process in which to develop criteria for which tobacco products with a lower risk for the user. Lars Erik Rutqvist role as advisor to the Authority for four years.

This should be great news for American Snus users perhaps.

I remember hearing about the plan a while back; I'm glad it feel into place. Hopefully Lars' common sense perspective resonates with the American FDA.

This could be good or at least I don't see how it could hurt.

I hope this could do something good for all of us in EU in the future too, if snus gets more recognized in US.

Lars Erik, who is the VP of Scientific Affairs for Swedish Match is going to serve on the FDA's board that is going to determine the risk associated with smokeless tobacco, particularly snus. This is good news for snusers because Lars is one of the world's leading voices when it comes to harm reduction - not just as a doctor, but as someone who has researched snus to death and knows just how safe it is. Him serving on the FDA board that will determine the risks associated with snus is good news for American Snusers in that it may help us see snus more easily available and possibly without the warning labels someday.

since obama is a smoker he might just listen to Lars.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Lars is a good guy and he really knows his stuff. When Dr. Snus and I were in Sweden last year we got to sit down and talk snus with him - and he knows it to no end and he's passionate about it. This is definitely a plus, and I really hope the FDA will listen and be receptive to what he has to say.
