Some thoughts,


I debated if I should post this or not because it feels wrong to post things that have to do with the FDA and I don't want to scare any of our wonderful Swedish friends. Actually, the companies who have taken the steps to sell thru Northerner are looking good if my conspiracy theory is correct..lol... That being said I think it's fair to include everyone in the discussion so they can make arrangements and comment on the current situation.

I was reviewing the TCA and after reading thru it I noticed a date in the future that worried me a little.. That date is April 2012.. I wonder if that's what the whole Mayan calendar thing is about? Anyway... April 2012 is the date that the FDA is going to issue it's guidelines on internet sales of tobacco..(yikes) that got me wondering about the different players and the current approaches by various companies..

Take Northerner for example.. They are setting up a retail network and taken the time and spent the money to set up a US based operation.(makes sense to me) They never really speak up when people on the boards bring up how they get their snus cheaper from over the pond. Is it because they know April 2012 is coming and they hope to have their retail operation up and running?

Take Swedish Match for example.. It's my guess that with their resources in the FDA including Lars they know this coming and that is why they are making a push to get their snus on the shelves now..Hell, they even have an employee working to advise the FDA about the rules. I hate to say this but it would actually make sense for Lars to recommend the ban of Internet snus. Who would benefit from that? Swedish Match! If there is one thing they know...it is that you have to to control the distribution..

Take Imperial for example.. These guys are no dummies. Why are they not investing in registering their products with the FDA? I think they have decided that they are not going to make a push right now into the retail side of the market because that takes considerable moola so why register their products for sale thru the web when they know it's going to be shut down.. Makes sense to me..(edit-- I guess they could register and sell thru Northerner)


If you look at the timeline I attached it's all right there. The FDA will issue it's guidelines in April 2012 in regards to Internet sales. That's some scary stuff.. Who knows what they will say in regards to age verification, taxes, etc.. They could totally shut it down..

People keep assuming that Snus has flown under the FDA's radar but I don't think they are that dumb.. They just have not yet published their guidelines for Internet sales of tobacco.. The date for that nightmare is April 2012..

I think it's more to do with decorum. A pissing match between retailers doesn't make anyone look good. I think they're resentful of playing by the book, while other retailers don't, but in the end it doesn't matter that much, and we all make out if we get along.

I'm distrustful of any corporate involvement regarding legislation, and I wouldn't put it past SM, or any other big tobacco company to throw everyone else under the bus to further their short term goals. I don't know what it is about running a business, but it seems to rot the brain. Your attention span drops,, and your ability to see past the next quarter vanishes. These jokers don't realize they're giving the government the keys to the CEO office, and the near term gains will be turned around, and become a liability. There's enough room for everyone,, and you don't have to dominate the market to do well.

That's debatable. All the companies should have registered, and Skruf is a fairly popular brand over here. Anyone not courting the NA market is a fool imo.

I've been saying this all along. These are the new good old days, as bad as they are. I know very well snus is on the FDA's radar, as well as the other GOoO's(Governmental Organizations of Oppression). Nothing positive will happen regarding snus, unless it's Northerner doing it by putting snus in B&M shops. Northerner will be the heroes of the next 10 years.

That's what I am saying.. Northerners model makes more and more sense now that I see where this is heading... Imperial needs to get registered or miss the the boat!! There are as many people in LA as the whole of Sweden..

I agree...If Swedish match wants to put the boot on the Internet... They are perfectly aligned to do it as well...

I hear ya resnor... I just cleaned out buysnus stock of there slim mint..(be here today along with a lot of other killer stuff) That's the first time I have seen one of my orders cause a world wide snus shortage..lol...
