Ordering Snus in the EU (Germany)

    Howdy Snus-ers,
I'm studying abroad in Germany for a semester and have unfortunately started smoking again in order to keep myself sane. I've been browsing this forum and a couple other info-sources trying to figure out what the current status of ordering snus to EU nations is, and I'm still not quite clear.

Are we yet able to order snus without worrying about customs/duties being incredibly high? Is there a certain amount you can order? Do you pay all the appropriate taxes upon ordering, or upon receiving/etc.?

If anyone has a link to the relevant info or knows off the top of your head, that would be awesome. I don't want to keep smoking! Thanks!

AFAIK afraid we can only order V2 snus from Northerner's EU warehouse at the moment (EU taxes paid at point of sale) Other than that it's taking a chance with their US warehouse and Customs. Everywhere else is on lockdown.

Road trip to Sweden mate, its where its at! Stock up on as much as you can get your hands on, then drive back to Germany, won't have any customs or boarder issues either.

Do not use northerner unless you approve of dishonest biz practices which I am sure you do not....

I'm an American, so this is simply conjecture, but I think odenssnus.com will ship to EU nations.

There are only two rules for orders to Germany: use a shop that ships from the EU (Sweden or Denmark) and use UPS as your shipping method.

Standard shipping has a high probability of customs trouble. On inner-EU-shipments all taxes/duties are indeed paid in Sweden or Denmark and there are no restrictions for personal imports - but not every customs officer knows that (snus is a niche-product!) and some customs offices are even led by anti-tobacco fanatics (at least the offices in Cologne and Berlin) German-speaking forums are full of horror-stories. UPS on the other hand has an own customs department that handles the shipments correctly.

Orders from other countries (USA, Israel) can take weeks or even months because of the catastrophic shipping options to Europe and the probability for customs trouble or customs-fees is nearly 100%. The fees are affordable (about as high as the taxes on inner-EU-shipments), but you'll need patience at least and a bit of luck to deal with a customs office that doesn't simply seize the shipment because of a wrong interpretation of the (not so easy to understand) tobacco-laws in Germany.

Northerner and Odenssnus are options at the moment (with limited assortment but from quality-producers). I, personally, have solely used different brands from Odensnus for some weeks now and I do not miss anything. Thanks to the EU the situation is getting worse by the day though, so it's better to order sooner than later.

              Cheers!

This is the best advice right here. I was going to say that unfortunately it's the only way, but GN's products are amazing so I'm not missing out on anything. Yet.

Thank you all for your input. I'm going to place an order with odenssnus tonight and use UPS. Hopefully it comes through!

Just tried ordering with Odens and am having issues with my credit card. I think it may be because I had to register using my address in Germany (since they only ship to EU) but the address I have on my card is in the US....

Just placed an order with Northerner with Standard UPS shipping... so if I understand correctly I don't have much to worry about customs-wise? Thanks

I see that many Europeans recomend odenssnus.com. What is the biggest argument for odenssnus against northerner? Due to tobacco taxes is cheaper to order form USA but I read that some users here are not so satisfied with snus from US. Why?

The main argument for odenssnus against northern is honesty.. or more specifically the lack of it on northerner's side.

If you take a look at northerner more carefully and go though the whole ordering process you will notice that the prices start nice but then add up a little bit with each step you make. It is like booking a flight with Ryanair, they will charge you for everything... the prices you see on northerner's home page are advertised as net prices but that's not true. You end up paying three times that. Also, northerner is shipping all snus from their warehouse in Denmark.. how come they charge you Swedish VAt and Swedish tobacco tax? Hmm... any clues?

At odernssnus its all quick and simple.

I checked both pages (northerner and odenssnus) but odenssnus offers only a several different types of snus.

There are three options of shipping:
                          Brev
                          Företagspaket
                          Postförskott

Which one is the best one?

Are the costs of snus and shipping the only price I have to pay or are there any other taxes? Is there a limit within EU how much can I order?

Brev means "a letter" in Swedish which stands for Swedish post. It's the cheapest of all options but it does not give you a tracking number and you never know what happened to your snus in case it never arrives.
Go for UPS Standard. I don't remember which option stands for UPS Standard shipping but it is marked clearly with UPS logo.

Unlike Northerner, Odenssnus will not charge you anything on top of snus price and shipping. Prices that are indicated on the website are final prices inclusive of all taxes and handling fees. Scope out the products that you want to buy, fill up your shopping cart, select the shipping and voila - go to check out.. done.

I think in Germany there is no cap on how much snus you can bring in for personal use... i would limit myself to a reasonable quantity of 3 to 5 rolls though... there is no customs between Swed. and Germany as both countries belong to the EU
