Europe’s war against tobacco has a new target: Nicotine

    https://www.politico.eu/article/euro...h-snus-sweden/

"Europe is building up a head of steam to wage the next war on Big Tobacco. And this time, it’s not over deadly cigarettes but a product that contains no tobacco at all — the seemingly innocuous nicotine pouch.

Still somewhat of an anomaly outside of Sweden, nicotine pouches are little bags of nicotine, flavoring and plant-based fibers that are placed under the lip to release a hit. Their popularity is growing: Analysis indicates that the market for nicotine pouches doubled between 2020 and 2021 in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Slovakia and the United Kingdom."

I just went thru all of buysnus snus selection then went thru all their pouches. I swear there is far more pouches available. I thought that was interesting.

I only went thru the tobacco portions, not the los.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Hopefully this will take snus out of the spotlight as the thing to ban...at least snus has a harm reduction track record. I can not imaging nicotine pouches not being similar, but I could them imposing a restriction on strength like in Canada. Time will tell...

I think most of the pouches are almost like candy and attracting younger folks.

The np’s do taste delicious, they’re like vapes.

Kids who would never touch a cigarette (eww tobacco) vape all the flavors.

Had no idea there was still a regular snus ban in europe. What kind of BS is that really? And is the non-tobacco pouches really that much more safe than the tobacco based pouches?

I don't think they are much safer but they don't contain tobacco and thats originally what the war on tobacco is about. Pouches are kind of a work around.

I don’t think nicotine pouches are any safer than tobacco snus. If anything for newbies they might be ineffective in getting them off smoking. I can see them getting people off vapes though with the range of flavours.

This is it. Getting people to drop vapes and go to nic pouches is smart marketing…not sure about the cost effectiveness though. You can grab a vape that will last two weeks for $10 here. Pouches are $5 a tin and have 15 portions. I switched easily to snus all those years ago because it was one of the cheapest nicotine delivery devices…and it still is ordering online.

Apparently in the UK they are more like $7.60 in the supermarkets with the current exchange rate.

Didn’t the Royal College just put out a 20 year study that vaping is 5% as harmful as smoking? Regardless, if they are cheaper than cigarettes it will lead to harm reduction.

I remember when Camel snus came out (American version) that it was marketed as “for when you can’t smoke”…not sure what the marketing push is in UK now…if it can even be advertised. Americas dry Zyn is just everywhere here and apparently super popular.

I saw the Royal College report on snus years ago but not on vaping.

I guess the Nic pouches even at that crazy price are still cheaper than smoking if you use a can a day. I don’t know how widely they are advertised. The cans don’t seem to be that hidden from view (unlike tobacco) in the shops I have been in - they often seem to be displayed right next to the vapes.. I’m pretty sure I saw one of the brands as a sponsor on motorsports.
