BTW, all you PITA Republicans that tried to make the PACT Act some type of Democrat issue. Note which members of which Paryt stepped up and stopped it. LMAO tonight.
This did not surprise me. I have been counseling since almost day one to not stress this. I have also said from almost day one that I did not expect it to pass the Senate despite the overwhelming support it got in the house. Senate just a different place.
And to everyone who has gone out and dropped a fortune on soon to be old snus "stocking up". LOL, sorry.

You have to look at your states tobacco tax table, which is posted somewhere around here on one of the PACT threads to find out for sure. I'm not sure if Massachusetts is a high tax state for smokeless tobacco, but it is for cigarettes. Texas is a high tax state on smokeless tobacco, so I could see it going up to $7 a can where I live, if I bought it through "legitimate" channels. It already sells for that much at the cigar stores that carry it.

I remember Massachusetts specifically because it was so ridiculous. They tax at 90% of value.
Edit:
You're in luck, I misremembered. It's only 90% of wholesale value :^D
Here's the tax list...

It was intended to increase state tax revenues by making it illegal for people to buy tobacco products through anything other than bricks and mortar facilities, preferably in the state in which the consumer resides. All the garbage about "The Children" was a load of crap.... Remember, FDA chiefs are political appointees, and a lot of what the FDA does is politically motivated.
The FDA is riddled with conflicts of interest -- mostly connections to the giant pharmaceutical companies. In essence, the FDA is more or less controlled by drug companies. Nobody knows for sure what set off the anti-tobacco mania of recent years, but there is evidence that someone or some group shelled out a lot of money to get it rolling. Doctors and other medical professionals quickly got on the bandwagon, too, but they're all shills for Big Pharma, too, whether they know it or not. The big drug companies have the big bucks, and the most to gain by controlling nicotine.
Call me a lunatic if you like, but my theory is that the big multinational drug companies want to drive all tobacco companies out of business, so they can have a complete monopoly on nicotine distribution. Millions of poor addicts, with nothing but nicotine gum and patches, doled out at whatever prices the market will bear by a handful of filthy rich profiteers looking to get even richer.
