Jwalker: I'm not fond of either of them, but to answer your question about my opinion, Rossi supports these absurd and ungodly expensive wars we're fighting, does not support abortion, and has proposed next to nothing to reduce spending. And I actually like the idea of adding a little extra tax for the rich, because, well, they can afford it. I'd rather have rich people whining about a few grand and have more public services than have more budget cuts to our schools and offices of public safety.

I agree with lxskllr, this is a real bad spot we're in with no easy solutions and no one is calling it what it is. Pipes, i'm feeling your message but there was no cost of living increase for SS this year because there has been no increase in the general cost of living. During a recession you experience deflation, where things become cheaper because production/supply remains the same while demand is reduced significantly. Basically it is cheaper to live this year than last since prices are dropping, therefore you get no cost of living increase, which is designed to account for an annual increase in cost of living (which doesn't exist this year).


And i don't feel it's very conservative to give out more handout money. Not that SS is really a handout, but it is all figured out with formulas that make sure you pay in a certain amount, and then get out a certain ammount. If we keep changing the rules, further down the line the math will no longer work.

It would be about 4% IF Clinton had not changed the way it is figured ! Thats what sucks food and gas are no longer in the formula ! It would a been about 11% last yr with those 2 items figured in . So ya under the current formula put in place by the Demoncrats there was is NO inflation I agree .

Right, and i totally agree that they fiendishly altered the formula, like democrats always do (lol, look at how they figure the employment numbers nowadays!), but it doesn't change the fact that the cost of almost everything has either stayed the same or decreased over the past year. Cars are cheaper, everything is cheaper. Hell even gas is cheaper this year than last. Most foods are cheaper, except for some that are more expensive due to environmental conditions leading to low crop yields etc.

As for Social Security being a handout and NOT concervative I semi agree BUT for those that have paid in for 30 or 40 yrs its NOT a handout IMO I say stop it now for those first entering the workforce ! But so they don't end up on hand outs they have to make them invest it someway to sustain thereself when they retire or get sick and can no longer work society owes its elders some dignaty of life . The homeless and inferm and elderly we IMO owe them some kind of a hand up not a hand out ! If Clinton had left the damn formula alone things would be just fine for older retired folks depending on there SS IMO ymmv thou .

I really could care less who is in office as long as neither party has more than 60% of the votes in either chamber. Our government is at their best when they can't enact any new laws.

What I do care about though is:

An immediate end to the lobby system

Publicly funded campaigns, at all levels of government

2 term limits, not matter what the elected position

Either an immediate supplemental tax to support the war effort or a complete pull out. Either prosecute the war right or get the ^&*( out.

Eliminate the IRS and replace it with a consumption based tax system

Show me a candidate that supports even just two of those and I will be on the streets marching for them. Until then, screw em. Every last one of em is in the pocket of special interests and is selling our once great nation down the damn drain.

As quick as they see the unemployment figures with the cencus folks gone figured in they will alter the numbers to not reflect them you watch ! Those folks a TON a them running around your neighborhood with clipboards are all now layed off and that if they show it be about 1.5% up tick in unemployment but I bet they alter the numbers or the way there figured !

IMO, those two things are part of the problem. Not a single person in history has given something to someone without expecting something in return. Absolutely. Thats why im semi rooting for the republicans, I think they have enough of a resurgence to eliminate a dem majority but not enough to where they will have a blaring majority eather. As close as we can get it to 50/50 the better.

In principle I agree with you, but your (not you personally, just using that as a word) right to vote stupid ends where that stupid choice screws me over.

A perfect system can't exist, all we can hope to do is limit it to prevent long term abuse of power and keep people from becoming life-time elected officials. We need people who actually represent us, not some blue-blood elitest (from either party) who are only looking out for their own power and prestige.
