    Courts shut down Limewire

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2371462,00.asp

"As a result of a court-ordered injunction, we are required to disable 'the searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality, and/or all functionality; of LimeWire's P2P file-sharing software," Lime Wire spokeswoman Tiffany Guarnaccia told PCMag.com.

No more free music for you!

          Pirate Party in 2012!

I haven't been following this case. Why is it the government is allowed to shut down legitimate business? It seems to me this is very similar in principle to VHS recorders. The industry wanted them shut down too, but since there's legitimate use for the technology, they were rebuffed. Just another example of the government rolling over to corporate interests. Disgusting... :^S

lol I got so much music from Limewire during the first half of this past decade. I got really tired of musicians bitching about "stealing"music. A lot of the shit I ever downloaded was the work of dead musicians anyway, but my biggest argument is that had I not downloaded music from living and relatively obscure bands, I would have never come to appreciate them in the first place and wouldn't have paid all that money over the years to go see live music. I also wouldn't have gone on to purchase their music as a responsible man in my 30's.

Studies have shown that the people that pirate the most music, also buy the most music. My philosophy is pretty close to yours Roo.

                Thanks Limewire,

I also pretty much got while it was good! everything I needed before 2005. There was a strong need to back then with burning discs etc.. That is how music was exchanged/found but now it is, look what I found on youtube! or I heard that on the radio and maybe I will download that somewhere if I can remember.

If I was just looking for music now I would get a large external hard drive and just grab the entire library from friends computers while you still can without having to fill out some form to do so.

I use Usenet for 98% of my needs, there's no filesharing involved.

alt.binaries.sounds.lossless (no mp3 crap for me)
alt.binaries.multimedia (for most of my TV needs)

                  Giganews is my usenet server

                  On the occasion I need a P2P torrent btjunkie.org

I just think that it's sad that we are in an age where something as common as sharing a book with a friend or neighbor is now considered illegal if done on a digital medium.

I'd vote pirate party just so I could attend rallies with signs that read "Surrender the booty! Pirate party 2012!"

I'd definitely vote Pirate if given a chance. I don't believe in them completely, but their vision is much closer to mine than what we have now. Besides that, it's just cool being a pirate :^D

If the government feels obligated to shut down Limewire, then they must shut down Youtube as well, since it's filled with pirated films and music.

Up my way Verizon DSL and Comcast Cable have banned alt.binaries completely.

Speaking of banned .... is this LaZeR or maybe one of his relatives:

I was about to say that. usenet used to be more of an egghead thing but they make it easy now. i am violating the first rule of binary usenet by posting this "never spread the usenet word". It is a conspiracy to keep usenet around for our children to use. if word gets out how good usenet is then more and more people will use them until the gov finds a way to shut them down. so officially usenet binaries are hard to use and really suck.

for us snusers i say screw torrents and file sharers, they are for kids and sissies. learn how to use usenet binaries. dont expect your isp usenet to be worth using. get an account at http://www.giganews.com. The first thing newbies say is "i aint paying for no usenet account". I say, fine keep spending your life waiting for some little file to show up on a torrent or in a file share program. then risk jail time and getting sued and then download it at 5 kbs for a day or two. Or learn usenet, solve all those problems and download at the max speed of your isp. hey ever wonder were all that 'scene' stuff comes from? Usenet the walmart of "sharers" but don't spread the word
