Why is it that UFOs spotted in the forties and fifties look like crappy movie UFOs from the same era whereas UFOs now are splendidly lit marvels of extra-terrestrial technology, will our UFOs look cheesy to future generations? That thing looks like it's made out of cast-iron and likely uses a coal and steam propulsion system.

Because the technology available to make a hoax is better!

I agree that to support the long-term survival of our species it's best to put eggs in different baskets to hedge our bets. The biggest problem with Mars though is the total lack of a magnetosphere to protect us from solar radiation which would likely burn off any atmosphere we produce.

I think by the time we had developed to the point that we could turn the atmosphere habitable we would either have solved that problem or be able to travel to an even better location. Fact remains that one day the survival of the human species will be based on the species ability to relocate to other planets or star systems.

Mars atmosphere could be terraformed pretty easily. The whole planet is rich with everhing needed for life, it just needs to be kickstarted. No magmetosphere really ****s up the chances of any of it sticking though, but who knows what technology will bring.

I agree with devilock, someday the survival of the human race will be based on figuring out how to colonize other planets. I'm sure we'll figure it out by then.
