    Anyone here hunt?

Anyone here hunt? I make a lot of my own tactical gear (yes, a very big hobby of mine is sewing) and he asked me to make him a hunting vest based off of a MOLLE/PALS assault vest with some GP pouches. Just finished it up and about to finish a Surefire flashlight pouch. It's got a place for a Camelbak in the back, which I thought was pretty slick engineering on my part. Made out of 1000 denier cordura so its pretty tough. Exactly like some of my assault vests at work, and very similar to my warrant service vest carrier. Attached everything with Malice Clips. Hes pretty pumped about having a custom vest. I'll post some pictures up when I can.

I love the smell of nylon in the morning!

I enjoy working my ferrets when I get the chance - its pretty much the start of the season now actually. I can't sew but managed to get some good temperate british army kit with room in the pockets for 20 nets, a pocket knife and a can of snus. Actually I could probably fit a roll in if I tried!

I've considered making my own nets from hemp (more expensive but better value for money in the long run as they snag and tangle less than the nylon ones), however I'm not sure if I'll just end up in a big tangled mess. I also already have 30 well made hemp nets that I have looked after for 5 years, and are as good as the day I bought them.

I do shoot air rifle and recurve bow as well but you are limited to rabbits, corvids, wood pigeons and rats with the air rifle and hunting with any bow is illegal over here in the UK.

There are some ALF and PETA fans here. I'm fine with hunting if you eat what you kill. But no, I'm personally not into it, and never did it, and never had the desire.

This is more of a posting about gear/equipment than anything. I dont want this to devolve into 'opinions' or moral/ethical concerns. Sorry, as the thread title is a bit misleading.

Here's the finished product. Anyone familiar with PALS knows how handy it can be. Only problem is, with the orange, I have to make all the MOLLE pouches myself...

Oh, yeah... I made the sheath for the knife out of blaze orange kydex and riveted it to a MALICE clip. Turned out decent.

Completely my fault. Mod, can you change the thread title to "Does anyone make their own gear" or "Any other DIY folks?" or some other manner of shit? Thanks.

Nice work and being from NW PA all of my life I am a die hard hunter. Here was a gift to myself I purchased tonight at my local Wally World a brand new Mossberg 835 ulti-mag turkey abour $363 put the door after taxes and fees
to replace my old Mossberg 835 waterfowl version self camouflaged 28" barrel length with extra factory camouflaged ported 28" barrel. The new one is a prettier and much better suited for turkeys because of the 24" barrel. Now to see if I can sell my old one for a fair price I'm thinking advertising it locally for $225 OBO for it with both barrels.

I've been out hunting squirrels a few times this seaso. I love it, and squirrel is some delicious meat, granted it's not a lot of return for the effort but delicious none the less.......

Speaking of turkey hunting, a colleague saw my new ghillie project hanging in my office:
And is now trying to get me to make him one for turkey hunting. Ghillies are a pain in the tail. I, too, am from western PA by the way. I say things like 'yinz'.

Dude, squirrel and dumplings. Awesome. To hear my folks tell it, I was pretty much raised on wild game. The first time I had processed food, it was a hot dog and it made me violently ill.

I love trout fishing up here in the mountains. Shooting is more work related for me now (if you look at my photos on my profile), and I love the shooting sports, but oddly, it pushed me out of hunting. I'd rather go hiking or climbing or trout fishing when I'm out in ol' ma nature. By the way, Snuff, you're the man. I don't tell you enough.
