"Tax The Rich" 60 minutes (10-31-2010)

Ronald Reagan's old budget director, David Stockman, architect of the largest tax cut in American history, is now saying all the Bush tax cuts should be eliminated, even those on the middle class. He even admits his own party has gone too far with its anti-tax religion. He also goes on to say that we now have both parties, when it comes to permanent tax cuts, telling us a big lie. Yes, even the permanent middle class tax cuts President Obama is proposing.

I really don't mind paying taxes, well not really but I have to anyway, but I would really love to see taxes being spent in a much more efficient manner than they are now. Everything from a B2 Stealth bomber for a billion dollars to a bridge to nowhere for 450 million. I can't help but wonder if the government could still provide the services it offers today and have a budget surplus if it spent money wisely.

Raising taxes wont fix anything, they will just find a way to spend it more frivolously. Joe, do you have a job? Surely no working american could favor HIGHER taxes. Its so easy for everyone to cry to raise taxes on someone else, but if it was you i could hardly imagine anyone lobbying to give away more of their paycheck.

The Progressive political class virtually always treats increased tax revenues as "found money" that can be conscripted to further fuel governmental expansion and is rarely used to pay down debt that is already owed. When tax revenues decline because of the business cycle, or federal meddling/malfeasance, the lament rises anew that the "rich are not paying their fair share". This lament will be hardily evergreen regardless of what future tax rates the rich will be subject to.

Key word being discussion. Joe is really good at posting videos about what other people think. when it comes posting his own thoughts and having an actual discussion the lights are on but I'm not sure anyone is home.

Come on Joe join in the discussions that you start. Tell us what you think. Are you for increases in taxes? If the answer is yes, who should pay, the wealthy, the poor, or everyone?

I don't hear any answers from you except to cut taxes as the Repubs keep chanting
as their continuing mantra. At least Stockman has some answers and puts things
in perspective. There is no way to cut the deficit, balance the budget and cut taxes.
Yes taxes suck but they provide the necessary services to run a civilization. I suppose
we could be in primitives times when life was brutish and without taxes. A time without
electricity and and a life expectancy of 40. A time of no modern medicine or doctors.
Or we could go to a time before man had fire.

We could have saved a few bucks by not invading Iraq.


The Tea Party and the Repubs are going to put on quite a show if they gain control of Congress.
It ought to be hilarious.

OK you got me there. You are right. I am referring to the new breed
of Repub Tea Party type that want to cut taxes and have no plan.

Both parties have failed. I just don't buy the Repubs blame game.
That and they have no real concrete plan. It makes no sense at
all.

In fact I'll take it one step further Joe. Stockman's argument is against tax cuts for everyone. Republican or Democrat, rich or poor.

Democrats still want tax cuts but only for poor and middle class. Stockman is against that, so if you agree the Stockman has answers, then you are arguing against the position Democrats hold.

Since when do Republicans want an educated workforce? I think the opposite is true. They want an army of uneducated drones that will work for next to nothing.

I don't mind paying taxes. Even if they go to help the people. I don't have a problem with socialized programs that offer a real safety net. I do have a problem with taxes that go to feed an overstuffed pig of bureaucracy. That is wasted money in my opinion. I also think taxing the rich excessively is counter productive to economic growth.

That pretty much makes the point.

The idea started out good but has evolved into a corporate swindle of the masse's. It seems every decade or so a few more taxes/fees come out and it never ends.
