Well the Republicans are in charge of writing the Federal budget now. We already know they don't want to raise taxes, so let's see what they are going to cut.

Meantime we are running out of potable water and fertile land to grow crops on, whilst we just wasted the last century watching the game on our bigscreens.
Yup, that about sums it up. Bread and circus. But when we run out of bread, we really can't just eat cake...

They'll probably start with cutting education, so that the voters will be stupid and fall for anything they tell them. <-- just being sarcastic, but with a hint of truth...

The dems have owned education for a long time wether it be the liberal mindset in university or controlling the unions that teach the young. I'm sorry, I'm an independent to the 9th degree and really can't figure how you think that the anybody is against education. Education is penultimate to a society, but this is where we are screwed. There is plenty of money in the system, but like everything else it isn't appropriated wisely........

The reality is thag they are going to do a lot of grandstanding and almost no cutting. No one has cut anything for decades, its simply not how government works.

Furthermore, they only have control of the house, which means they have control of almost nothing. They cant pass anything without the dems approval, because it has to go through the senate and then get past obamas veto stamp. This was a big win for reps, but as far as them gaining power, all theyve gained is a bargaining chip. They can make it harder for dems but thats about it.

There's already a way around that. They are taking Joe's advice. The Fed is going to print more money and buy its own bonds to keep expanding the money supply. It's a back door tax. (and people wonder why the price of snus keeps going up)

Fed to buy $600 billion in bonds in effort to boost economic recovery

It looks like Rand Paul is considering a one man filibuster of raising the Federal debt ceiling. Everyone on both sides says that would be economic suicide for our entire country, and probably the entire world. Let's see if he sticks by his word...

This is the new America and not a whole lot is going to change for the better anytime soon. We have been sinking for close to a decade and I dont think that is going to be made up in just a couple of years from either side. Although I do believe inflation, higher taxes and more red-tape in starting a business is really a retarded theory in the great recesssion. I am glad at least that non-sense will be halted to a point.

I think if you had somebody like Rand or even Kucinich as a 2012 president who would set in motion some real radical ideas for change we might stabilize this sinking ship in the following years for at least our kids.

Yah **** it, raise our credit limit again. I sure wish i could do that in my own finances, just keep bprrowing into infinity with no limit. Why ever spend your own money, right?

That being said, no one votes against raising the debt ceiling, it will never happen. If it does happen, the us would be officially bankrupt, lose our credit rating, and slip into that goodnight. But if it does.... Well, people are going to come looking for that several trillion dollars. Wars have been waged over much less.

Ha! Rome was a different animal. They were an island, and people only suffered due to the lack of trade. In today's world, if the us dissapeared, the world would starve. All the wealth would be in the possesion of a few hundred people, and every economy on earth would collapse. Will mutually assured distruction work this time? Unlikely. Its going to come to world war 3 eventually. Can we win? Maybe, but that depends on who the enemy is. Shutting down america's econo y would be like shutting down the last casino in vegas. The river of money would stop forever. The high rollers wpnt let it happen, sp dont worry about it.

Really though, when we do tank someday, and that day will likely be in my lifetime, its going to be real ugly.

all i can think about is how bad i want a tshirt that says "Change is Coming to America". I would have worn it to vote yesterday if i had one. I have to say when I marked my ballet yesterday it felt good. I told my wife when I marked it i was thinking about pact and felt like I was giving it back to them. I am a serious voter and have only voted 100% republican twice and yesterday was one of them. most of the time the only democrats i vote for are local anyway. i dont want to fuss with anyone so i wont rub it in too much but........ Change is Coming to America
