First Tom let me say I am so sorry to hear the news

Life is too short to drink cheep beer..........I hope you find something you really enjoy

I would consult a labor lawyer.......depending on the laws in your state you may have a good case.

    Second, there is this...............

There is still work out there, but it's just harder to find. Stick in there bro!

Also lol@ the fact it was for excessive internet usage. I'll just leave this right here:

Edit: Oh shit, it's the snuson top-poster curse! The top two are unemployed, the third went crazy, and i'm 4th! Oh shit!
Now that is funny as hell!!!

    Or

    not a damn bit funny

depending on your perspective of course

Oh its funny as hell. The really funny part is....all of it.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

You have been complaining about your job so I hope you find something you like a lot better. Good luck!

Thanks all. I guess I shouldn't bother with appealing, it's not like I want to go back. I think they are unethical corupt bastards. I was saying earlier I regretted not quitting earlier, as I have hated that place for a long time, but my buddy told me it was better to get fired, because if you quit, you can't get unemployment. Frosted, I can appeal, but my position was not a union one, if it was, then maybe I'd have some backing, but it seems non-union government workers are just yesterday's trash. While the event was not expected, nothing suprises me, and while the initial "awakening" is taking it's process, I know for me, this was a good thing.

Well, it would be great to find a job, in a field that actually interests me.

I am sorry to hear about your job. I would go ahead and appeal it. The worst thing that can happen is nothing.

                    I hear you.

I've got fired twice until I decided to start my own online based business two years ago and it's going way better financially than a job.

If you didn't like the job then I can only be more happier you've finally decided to go another way and find a more suitable job for you. ;-)

Sorry to hear that Tom. It's always nerve racking losing a source of income even if you didn't enjoy it. As others have said, at least you are done with a job you hated. I'm sure something more satisfying will present itself.

Tom, I am sorry things went like that for you, but believe me, getting away from a job you hate is one of the best things that can ever happen to you. Living like that is the worst kind of stress. Try to find something you like doing for your next job.

Sorry to hear Tom. Like others have said, use this as an opportunity to find something you enjoy or can tolerate better. Keep up the good spirits and glad it sounds like you are taking it well considering.

My high ranking military father who is alive but channeling thoughts, is telling me to tell you to get your resume, business cards, kinko's whatever you need done this week. It will get harder to even put on a clean shirt in the coming weeks.

ENJOY THE NEW QUEST AND FREEDOM WHILE IT LASTS!

Tom I am a government employee as well, for the State government, and granted a different state but typically in government there are very specific rules that allow the dismissal of an employee.

                                1. Something egregious, eg. criminal, could call for immediate dismissal, like embezzling or downloading kiddie porn at work, things like that.
                                2. Budget changes that involve a reduction in force, this would be a lay off and typically is accompanied by a great deal of notice and a whole severance package and things like that.
                                3. Termination based on performance or policy issues. You should have been given a policy handbook or something of that nature. In government all these things have to be spelled out. In cases like that though unless they note certain offenses as severe any dismissal must be preceded by formal notice of the issue and typically a probation or similar period to ideally correct the problem before a dismissal can be issued.

Being immediately terminated for internet usage, with a good performance history, and without written policy dictating that action can take place smells fishy to me. Either you have a law suit on your hands or you are possibly omitting part of the story.

Anyway sorry for your job loss. At least there is all this hopey changey stuff out there to get you through it.

                                Ken
