You might have a point, and in the USA, I would not be suprised. We have a Dem mayor, and it's all liberal Dem agenda here, and I have posted anti-Dem material, and pro-Paul stuff. I'm suprised they didn't put pulonium in my coffee. This is what creates the Westbeckers. If I was single and lived in an apt and didn't have savings and could not get a future job and was about to be on the street, one would have nothing to loose.
I got fired today!!

Trust me the U.S is somehow better than some western countries in Europe.

It was pretty cowardily to not give a warning about using the internet.
I am pretty sure it is was written in your employee contract but cmo'n, are people really that uptight? obviously so.

I am sure the new boss, just wanted me gone, because I was not a fanatic about the subject matter.
I do have a question. I want to apply for unemployment, but is there a time frame one "must" apply for it?
I mean, I feel like I just got liberated from a gulag, I'm still getting over this bad cold, taking the meds my doc gave me, the day I was "fired". I have a decent sum in my savings, I'm not going to be homeless, winter and holidays are coming, I wanna take a break. I "think" once one applies for unemployment, one has to start job searching right away, and that's not what I want to do "right away". Of course I don't know if they are gonna oppose me getting unemployment, then I'll have to try and expose their conspiratorial plan, probably to an outside legal group.
But that's my question, if anyone knows? Thanks.

@tom
I don't know how it works in the U.S
But over here in Romania people can only apply once for unemployment in a life time. That means you get the monthly unemployment 'wage' for one whole year, once in a life time - that's it.
And a second one which is a smaller amount, for another 6 months if you still didn't manage to find a job after the first year, afterward God's WILL ...
Anyway the Unemployment compensation is roughly $100 - $120 a month :\

I have a question if anyone knows?
My father and my buddy told me to apply for unemployment when I was made unemployed. I told them all I wanted to take a little vacation, but they kept telling me I should go on and apply. So I did. When I did so, it gave me a date to request my 1st check, which was today, so I am filling this stuff out, and they are asking me(I did this online) if I looked for work, and why not, if not. Well, I don't want to lie, so I wrote no, and that I was sick, and that I was told I would get a card to fill out, of my job searches. Which I believe I take with me to the review in person. I think I should not have followed their hasty advice to apply for this so soon, as it seems to me, this is for people who are actively out looking for a job, which I am not. When I did work, I always saved, and I have packed away a decent savings, and I wanted to take a break, and ride the winter out, I don't have my own car, and I'm not in a major rush to get back to work right this moment. So, anyway, I filled the thing out, but I wonder since I said I haven't been job hunting, if I will get sent a check. Will I get a card in the mail to fill out? Can I cancel my application for now, and do it later, or can I just do it later? I don't know. It's very confusing, and the website does not give instructions on what I am supposed to do. I guess I could call them, but I really just don't want to. I am not ready to do all this right now. I am on my winter vacation.

Insurance was paid for, and I'd take advantage of it. If you don't want to work, apply for jobs you aren't qualified for. Keeping your eye on openings may score you a sweet job also. You don't want to burn through your savings, and then be fuxored at the end, with no money coming in, and nothing banked.

For starters technically you have been putting money into that system when you worked so don't feel guilty collecting it. Then again with the current unenmployment really that barely applies.
In my wife's case after going there once you just basically fill it out online, and I think it was 3 or 4 leads a week required. That means you called, or emailed a resume to 3 or 4 people in looking for work. That is it. It varies by state though and I will say this, it is not a complicated process and I don't think right now most people's submissions are really being scrutinized from what I have seen. Interpret that how you will but it is not arduous to meet the "looking" requirements.
Again it varies state by state how it is administrated but I bet your local ESC has information on their website about the requirements and process.

UI varies from state-to-state, but usually you either are denied benefits or forced to wait 8 weeks or more before you start collecting if you are fired for cause. If you do manage to collect it would be pretty hard to accidentally find work in this economy if you want to game the system while still technically complying with the rules.

I wouldn't have answered no to looking for work, You always answer yes to looking for work .. Yes to were you able to work and available for work if work had been offered... No to did you refuse any offer of work... No to did you work or earn wages... If you answered no to looking for work you will not get payed for those weeks and you may have jeopardized getting unemployment as you must be able and willing to work at all times, Sick or not.. I know you don't want to lie, But the sad truth is most do... Just write down jobs you know you won't be qualified for...Hell Man!! Just write down anything... They don't check... It is on the honor system and you just need a record for yourself that you can bring with you if your ever called in to unemplyment which is very rare..
So I'll bet you claim on your income tax if you find a dollar on the ground, Not!... Take the unemployment and still take the winter break and half look and you may find what your looking for anyway...You only need to keep a record of 2 job searches per week anyway... You are entitled to it... Just don't answer no to looking for work whether you are or not.. I know all of this as I'm on unemployment and trying for disability, But still looking for employment... I'm not sure what card your talking about to bring to a review though... What Review?
Edit: True some States have different rules... Mine just Suggests you make 2 work searches per week... It doesn't state must...

Sounds similar to the UK, where you have to be actively seeking employment to get the benefits. But I obviously don't know the intricacies of your system.
Just lie, tell them you are job-seeking. I've done that before after I got made redundant after an 11 year stretch and fancied a few months over the summer kicking back. I got precious little in the way of benefit anyway as got such a lucrative severance package, but it meant I was up to date with my National Insurance tax payments, and there were no unexplained gaps in my employment tax history.
I just turned up at my fortnightly meeting with a list of fictional evidence of my job hunting, and got my money. Fortunately I do a fairly specialist line of line work, so I was allowed 6 months grace to find a new equivalent job before they could start forcing me to take anything.

I understand why people are saying just lie, but I would be hesitant to ADVISE as such as a US resident even on a message board. Just saying.

I don't want to lie, and if they'd sent me that card, which I was expecting, I would have filled it out and applied at a place a week, I never got anything, so I really didn't know what to do. The website is rather confusing and does not give specific actions to be done. Anyway, I filled it out truthfully, and I'll see what happens. Thanks for all the replies.
