Wow. I'm flying on Friday night one-way to LA to drive with my friend back to Seattle. He's moving. I'm totally going to decline the X-ray if subjected and bust a nut all over the TSA. Full Facial Friday. I'm stoked.

I run into stuff like this every so often, and I feel like I'm shooting Santa Claus by ruining a good story :^D

For anyone seriously contemplating refusal to fly in defiance on this xray screening business, consider this. Friday, as I mentioned above, I flew to Ontario airport in the greater Los Angeles area. I flew from Seattle-Tacoma Int'l Airport. It's no O'Hare or Hartsfield, but we have at least... 20 direct international flights, and it's home to Alaska Airlines. I went through the security checkpoint that leads to all terminals for all commercial flights, domestic or int'l. There were two lines: one that lead through the old metal detector, and one through the x-ray. I got in the x-ray line, inadvertantly, but didn't care. What I discovered in line was that people who couldn't pass through the metal detector were pulled into my line and subjected the Xray. When it came my turn, I did what I always do: Take everything out of my pockets, and put it all plus belt and shoes and backpack through the scanner. Then I walked, without direction from anyone, across lines and through the metal detector, of course with no difficulties because I was preparred. That's how it works, at least at my airport. If you're worried about it or defiant toward being subjected to it, research your airport and see how it's done. My point is just that in my experience, if you don't beep through the metal detector because you put all the appropriate shit through the regular scanners, this will be a non-issue for you personally. This of course does not apply to those of you fighting it on principal, it's just practical advice for those who do travel by air from time to time.

It is said that generals are forever trying to figure out how to better fight the last war. In like wise the TSA is getting quite adept at fighting the last attempted terrorist attack. Darn shame the next one will be from yet another unexpected direction.

Seriously, Blue. That video does not mean much to me. I am positive that young woman was wrongly mistreated; it sure appears that way, and doesn't surprise me in the least. And yeah it makes me a little angry. Look brother, you know I do not in any way support the measures our government has taken to try to identify potentially dangerous air travelers. It's 100% absurd, unsound, and unfounded. But air travel is my business, and getting out of Dodge is my passion, so some young lady who got the shaft over some breast milk isn't enough to make me protest the entire air travel industry. What I did see in that video is one woman being unduly harassed while a whole shitload of travelers passed quickly though security the same way it's been done since 9/11 and Richard Reid. Not a body-scanning X-ray in sight. Which was pretty much the point of the post from yesterday. This whole deal is maddening and ridiculous, but not life-changing. Plus, if you never travel, when are you going to get your chance to personally bitch out the TSA and raise a ruckus?

Good point, I noticed that while I was watching, business as usual except for the sacrificial lamb.

Oh, I do. Next time I'm drinking beer somewhere I can't drive to I'll throw a toast to my man Bigblue1, not getting reach-arounds, but reaching right down into his own lap and tuggin' a little too hard. The type of tuggin' that chafes a little. That ol' 3AM, home alone tuggin'.
