    Reliant Robin On Top Gear

A little lengthy at 14 minutes, but you guys should see this thing. I've never seen such a ridiculous car in my life :^D A trivia note... I think this car was Mr Bean's nemesis on the TV show. You'd see it rolling over every so often in an episode :^D

You gotta wonder what the designers were thinking. I'm cool with the idea of a 3 wheeled car, but it wouldn't look anything like that. I'm not a mechanical engineer, or an automotive engineer, and I never took a single class in physics, but that doesn't even pass the eyeballed "That might work" test. I'd be scared seeing that driving towards me :^D

        Edit:
        grammar

That is, and will always be, one of my favourite Top Gear skits.

The Reliant Robin was produced for the fact that with a motorcycle license you could drive a (sort of) car. It was accessible to young drivers being cheap and licensing for motorcycles is much less stringent than for cars.

Because it only had three wheels the government classified it as a motorcycle (like how the US government classifies a PT Cruiser as a light duty pickup truck).

This is exactly why they were popular over there.

I personally never had one, never even rode in one, but there was a lot of them around.

                    /off topic but only kinda

The US version of Top Gear is takin a piss.

They tried to basically reshoot it but use American guys instead. I mean I didn't watch it all but it looked as if the really tried to reshoot frames from the UK show.
Then we have some pretty young dudes trying to host it. I like the fact that the real Top Gear has middle aged men hosting.... guys who have driven a TON of cars past and present. Dont get me wrong..... I know they do research before every show but that doesnt overshadow the way I see them relate to what they drive.
Anyone else even see a few minutes of it that have seen the real one?

Thing is I said almost all the same things about the UK Office and the American Office..... and now I love both (this season not so strong imo...Dont leave Steve!)
So, I guess you never know.

I haven't seen the new one yet but the hosts are really good comedians in the standup and tv world.

I read, somewhere, reviews of the first three episodes of the stateside Top Gear and the guys opinion was that the first one was very weak but they improved greatly after that. Let's hope but they simply will not reproduce the wonderfully anarchic quasi-insanity of the original, especially not with unseasoned blow-dryed whippersnappers hosting the show and driving the cars. The first epi looked a lot more like a sequel to the Jackass movies than anything else. Now if Jay Leno and Dennis Miller hosted with Jackie Stewart doing the driving now that would be a show I'd take off work to watch.

Regards the Robin there has been for a long time a dedicated enthusiast cadre that embraces the sundry three-wheeled tax-avoidance mobiles sold in Great Britain in the last century. The most recognizable of these of course are the various Morgan models which have not been made in decades but now it appears that Morgan is on the brink of introducing a modernized version of its beloved three-wheeler. Oddly the new vehicle will be essentially identical to the one built here in this country by Ace Cycle Cars which uses a Harley engine up front. The design captures the looks, spirit, and fun of the originals but with considerably more performance and probably far more reliability. The Ace rig is "Constructed under license from Morgan Motor Cars" but in a very odd turnabout Morgan itself has decided to start selling the vehicle under its own name.

If i was going to ride/drive something with three wheels it would be one of these.

Those things are slick, and that's what I had in mind with a 3 wheeled car. Lengthen it, close the top, and you'd have a much more stable platform.
