    Thanks for the update. Must be a good refund if you can buy a car with it. I can't even file mine yet because of the stupid itemizing thing where they are making us wait until sometime next month... assh*les

        Sorry for the late post, but I thought I might be able to shed a little light on this...

        Since car crashes are near-perfect inelastic collisions (the cars stick together afterwards) it isnt a straight vector + vector idea. If you were moving at 30 mph and the lady was going 35 mph then...using our handy little physics... we would get...

        p1m1 + p2m2= p3m3
        (mv)m1 +(mv)m2= p3(m1+m2)
        p3= 147 Kwatts of momentum
        147e-3 = mv
        v= 26.83 m/s at time of impact which equals 60 mph. Close but no cigar Kcollins ( ;

        At that speed you should be glad neither you nor your wife suffered any internal injuries...that's some scary shit.
        Hope everything turns out okay!

          Thanks guys! And thanks Brayden for the physics of it.. I thank god everyday my son wasn't in the car.

          We went to a few lots and settled on a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix.. Got about 140,000 miles for 2,500 car, tax, title out the door. It's not in the greatest of shape but will get us from point A to B. Going to test drive on Monday but we did start it up and the engine sounded good so it should be fine. The other lots we looked at anything under 2500 was horrid and that is our budget. I know what your thinking, get something better with payments. It's just with my wife not working and a with the rent etc, a car payment would break us. Man I miss my old job before I got layed off. Was making descent money . Damn economy! It's a nice car for what we can pay.

            Eric, ya gotta do what ya can afford to do. That's the bottom line.

            You were extremely lucky... best of luck with the car and hopefully
            the economy will rebound enough to put a smile back on your face.

              Good luck with your potential new wheels! Smart choice paying cash for what you can afford. Cars aren't worth a damned thing. If you divorce yourself from the whole "status symbol" mindset, you realize a car is nothing more than a hammer to use, and abuse. Dealers like to talk about "investments", but a car is one of the few "investments" you're guaranteed to lose money on every single time(along with horses and boats). The only exception to that is something rare, or custom, and you're not gonna be using that as a daily driver, even if you had the cash. A 2002 Grand Prix sounds perfect :^)

                  Definetely.. Great post. Makes me feel better. What's good about having the car payed off is not having to worry about being able to pay the note and having it repoed. He'll I'm married. Don't need to have a cool ride to impress the ladies. As long as it's safe, smooth, and reliable I'm in good shape.

                    yep...and drive them into the ground.

                    I put a quarter million miles on my last crown vic. All in all that was the cheapest car I owned by far. And it's got a big back seat.

                      Hey man, sorry to hear about the accident, but glad you are okay. About the car you just bought..my wife had an 02 Grand Prix GT...and we drove the damned thing to death, it was a great car until she rolled it last spring and totalled it. We had nearly 300k miles on it, and I did most of the work, ie brakes, wheel bearings, water pump, etc...nothing major. Keep an eye on the intake manifold, it has a part on it that is plastic and after time, it can leak. Other than that...the 3800 V6 is a wonderful engine. You picked a car that I love, lol. They're fun to drive and have a wide track and longer wheel base than most 4 door sedans. Good luck, and if you ever have problems with it, lemme know. I've fixed many things on ours and may be able to help.

                        Good deal Rick! I've read alot of reviews on it and it seems to be a good vehicle. My father in law is a retired mechanic and had a few grand prix himself. If we ever run into anything I'll let you know. The car I had before was a freakin daewoo leganza Korean piece of crap. They pulled out of the country few years back so hard to get parts so this is definetely an upgrade.

                          I have to agree with everything said about the the 3800 series engines and about grand prix and gm cars in general. I also can relate to the daewoo's being crap I was hit by one while stationed in Korea back in 95 while crossing at an intersection in Seoul, I was drunk and so were my friends with me and when the taxi driver hit us we all walked away from it with mostly bruises but the cab had to be towed away

                            The damn hood was caved in almost all the way, the breaks weren't functioning etc.. We got 275 from a salvage yard to take it away.. Good riddance. I'm sticking with American from now on. Having precious cargo (my wife and the little one) I'll accept no less. Well let me take that back, I'd go with European Mercedes, BMW, Volco etc.. They are good ones but not in my Budgett.
