How thoughtful of Mr. Assange for shortening the time needed for all that boring research on what the best candidates for a future terrorist attack on critical western industrial infrastructure might be. He proves the proposition that one does not need to be a terrorist or criminal to be a thoroughgoing class A insufferable preening self-important asshole.

We wouldn't have to worry if the Government actually adhered to the US Constitution.

        "Why?" You ask?

The Constitution of the United States of America prohibits the existence of our military on foreign soil unless during a time of war.

...And you can't effectively state that we're at war with "terror" and terrorists because, by definition, that is impossible and impractical.
However, now you know what they use for justification of our military bases residing 70+ countries. We've been in one conflict after another since WWII. Coincidentally, we've also maintained an income tax since the two Wars. (Surely, you can see how the government saw how much funds were coming in with an income tax after the war ended? One would conclude that they would be eager to continue receiving said funding.)

Take a look at Japan. They don't want our military presence. In fact, they wanted the US military to leave their island, and when the US stood their ground and said "no," the Prime Minister resigned. He did this because he could not keep the promise he made to the people, which was to get rid of the military base.

The possibility of terrorist acts happening is great where our military bases exist, and people of a given country know this.

Now, information of critical assets have been leaked. If attacks do take place, the people of corresponding countries will encourage their own government to push for removal of US military forces and bases.

Again, this would have all not be an issue if the Government respected the Constitution, and non-interventionism remained the status quo. We are not the world's police. We are not the world's savior. We have our own troubles to attend to. They should be attended to before we engage in imperialism.

Terrorist acts against the US and its military take place because the US government sticks its fingers in other peoples' pies.

JULIAN ASSANGE HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND IS IN CUSTODY

Assange turns himself in. Walks into police station to answer to Swedish arrest warrant, is denied bail as he might be a flight risk. His crime? He had unprotected sex with 2 girls which in Sweden is considered a crime. The girl claimed she wanted him to use a condom, but then allowed him to do it without one, so now he is charged with rape even though the sex was voluntary.

Julian Assange has been arrested for having unprotected sex with two women. It's call "sex by surprise" in Sweden. The fine is about $715.

Assange lawyer: WikiLeaks will unleash a "thermonuclear device" of government files containing the names of spies, sources and informants if he's killed or brought to trial. Will they push the button?

Well, Assange is arrested in UK and will probably be extradited to Sweden to face those alleged rape charges... but the information will still flow. Amazing how in this day and age whistleblowers are punished by the media itself.

What organization, wikileaks? This should be celebrated by the people, not demonized. Information Your Government wants to hide from you.

actually those two bitches are ultra feminists, who think that men control the world through secks, and one of them has a blog in which she writes how to get legal revenge on men.

                    Oh, and this:

Assange Set Up By CIA Operative? Wikileaks founder arrested over spurious rape claims made by militant feminist who worked for group funded by U.S. government.

Wikileaks Assange 'rape' accuser has CIA ties

Assange's 'rape victim' has ties to the CIA.

And here's the other side of the debate:

Wikileaks: NATO Blocked Kosovo Secret Prison Probe - An investigation into secret CIA prisons in Kosovo was hampered by the alliance's refusal to answer questions, a Wikileaks memo reveals.

Former CIA officer Philip Giraldi discusses the theory that WikiLeaks is carrying out the agenda of a foreign power

How curious... Reporters Sans Frontières, an organisation with known ties to the CIA and the State Department, has come out in support of Wikileaks

Don’t you think everyone including Wikileaks is being played by CIA while inadvertently spreading it agenda at same time?

The whole thing stinks on all sides.
As far as I'm concerned, if Assange wants to play with the big boys he can take the big boys punches. The last wikileak had me questioning his motives in a big way.

We all know that government business is a mucky filthy affair. We don't really need to know about it - let the pro's deal with it i.e. diplomats, spies etc. Assange needs to grow up.

I agree the government needs to keep certain secrets in order to properly run intelligence services, manage diplomatic relations etc, but we have entered an era where everything is over-classified. You can't even find out what grades the president got in college because that is of course classified. The problem is that the gov is doing a lot of things and keeping it secret in order to save face. Him releasing this is a good thing imo. Furthermore, he has done nothing illegal, which is why no charges are being brought against him. The media disclosing the cables would be equally as guilty as assange in that sense. Both parties are just discussing/releasing information which a whistleblower made public. (there's no law against that)

You're absoloutely right, but why is he doing it? What are his motives? They don't seem well placed to me.
For what he is about to receive, I hope he is going to be thankful.

He has made his motives quite clear. He is trying to usher in the concept of transperency, a time when people can have access to information about what our government is doing. This original mission plan led to him having a vast network of contacts which leak information on various subjects to him. He is going to release info on bank of america here in a few weeks and I can't wait to see it.

He is a leftist that is generally trying to paint the US in a negative light from what I have gathered (like that propaganda "collateral murder" video BS). I don't support that particular goal, nor do I support him releasing key information in regards to the locations of our military structures etc. However, I do support him making the government scared of the people again, I do support the airing of dirty laundry, and I do support anything that breaks the status quo of controlled information from a controlled media. So he gets my support.

His motives don't really matter in the end. It helps all of us out. I KNOW our government's motives aren't any good. If the USA was a person, I wouldn't allow him in my house without someone keeping an eye on him every minute.

Something else to note is that the info he has released is not very damaging to the US, however it does shine Iran in a VERY negative light. Infact, it wouldn't surprise me if this was really a government attempt to "leak" damning information about Iran in order to gain support for it's agenda. We'll have to wait and see.
