    Learn me about the Wii

For the holidays I am planning on getting the kids the wii. They are five and three. I haven't considered myself a gamer since the Nintendo 64.

What do I need to get, what games should I get and what should I not let them sell me? Also, where are the best deals on accessories. All of the stores I looked in were roughly the same price. Im actually thinking hitting up amazon for some of the stuff.

So far I am planning on getting the red limited edition bundle with Mario and two extra controllers and nunchucks.

As for games, I would like some suggestions for me (rpg and shooters)<-- i know i should get a 360 for these] and for games I can play with the kids.

I will be getting the wii fit later on when funds allow but this is mainly for them.

Wii Sports Resort is great. Kids the age of yours would probably enjoy Super Mario Galaxy. There is a Super Mario Kart game that is a lot of fun, but it might be too involved for them.

I will go look at our other games and see what else I can find out.

I dunno, the new super mario brothers is the best game for it. I got a Wii as a gift and only used it to beat super mario brothers and then never touched it again.

The real question is "how old are your kids". Then I can make better game recommendations.

Stick with all the gimmicky sports games then. Wii sports, Wii party etc. Mario is pretty hard, maybe even too hard for a 5 year old. Mario galaxy is a little easier. If it's going to be used mainly under your supervision, than the sports/party games will be the most fun for them because they are easy.

For you, I recommend Metroid (I forget the name of the versio, there are 2 or 3 I think), it's pretty cool. So is the new black ops.

Karaoke is a fun game for kids, not sure if a 5 year old can do that or not but I imagine they could. Mario kart is cool but really only works with the car steering wheel add-on.

It all depends if this is really for you or really for them lol, that decides what games are good to buy.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is a hoot, they would probably love that.

I just got one as part of a black friday deal. Note it only comes with one controller so plant to buy another one. Also plan on getting the extra nunchuck and the wii motion plus style controller to boot. Fun fun.

The other option you've got is the xbox with kinect for a bit more money.
There's a couple of excellent games on it for kids - hugely superior to the Wii. Hopefully they'll roll out more games if it catches on.
p.s. I don't have one - PS3 for me. And I don't really rate the wii at all.

Yah if you can afford it, get an xbox and a Kinect. You get an xbox for yourself and the kinect is great with kids. They have a lot of games coming out next year, but right now your limited to onl a few titles. It's an extra like $150 on top of the xbox which is like $200 nowadays or something depending on which one you buy.

Not sure if money is tight or not. Wii, in my opinion, is a dead console. It wasn't good from the start, had mainly gimmicky content used to show off the motion controler, and never managed to get good game developers to develope on it's platform, therefore most of the game suck.

But kids seem to like it, for them the Wii is a great gift, and pretty cheap. But be advised that while the console is cheap, the games are still like $60 and each controler is another $50, plus you have to buy the nunchuck, plus the Wii motion plus addition for each controller etc. Expect to dump like $400 for a full system. For that i'd get the connect, but again there isn't a lot of games out for it yet.

I own both the Wii and Xbox 360, and I would recommend the Xbox (if you can afford it).

Though I will say that Mario Kart Wii is pretty fun.

It is mainly for the kids. The xbox is what I would buy for myself bit the kids already have a wii at their mom's house but they only have two games for it over there. My parents are getting them the console and the controllers and I am getting them a bunch of games. This way they can get the hang of gaming and then when the next big console war comes out the boy should be old enough to pick what he wants. After I posted I went to Game Stop to rifle the games and make a list. I see a lot of titles that they would like and some titles that are geared towards young girls (Dora, Princesses). Also we can all get on it and play at the same time. I am more concerned about them having fun rather than me getting to play the games I want. If we can play the games together, then that makes it worth it.

The charging station looks like it is worth it. Is a steering wheel a steering wheel or do I have to get the Mario Kart one for Mario Kart

do yourself a favor and get a rock band of some sort. The boy(5 yr) should be able to play the guitar. Not to mention it is an awesome way to have fun for all ages at family get togethers. Also I recomend the wii sports resort. I don't care what any of these guys say. The wii gets more use during parties than any x box ever has. Guess that's why both have motion now. It only took em what 4 years..........
