    199. I can get out using amazon for some of the games and the controllers slightly cheaper than the stores. Im still shopping around for those but the console price is pretty solid all around.

The wii fits in the living room. Also we don't have any form of television in the house except for the dvd player which is rarely used. Id rather take them to the park or do something creative. Plus I suck at ping pong.

          1) craigslist has GREAT deals on games
          2) buy used, there is no difference except you pay half as much
          3) what games do your kids already have?

if you do get a wii, get the re-chargeable battery / stand for it, or you'll break the bank on batteries... my boys play the wii pretty much an hour a day without fail, me not so much

Pretty much any steering wheel (for the Wii) will work. They are really just a wheel shaped controller holder that the regular Wii controller snaps into. My wife picked one up in a bargain bin for about $5 and it worked just fine.

Where are you getting the $600 figure from? The Xbox 360 + Kinect bundle is $299 (and it comes packaged with a Kinect game, "Kinect Adventures")

The Mario Kart game comes packaged with one Wii Wheel. But you don't even need the steering wheel to play. You can use the remote itself as a steering wheel. The wheel was only made to resemble a steering wheel (there's no actual electronics inside the wheel, it's just a plastic holder for your remote).

I would definitely buy the Mario edition Wii bundle. It's a great value when you take into account the extra controller and games that come with it.

I would recommend getting these games: Goldeneye, Mario Galaxy 2, Wii Sports Resort, and Mario Kart.

Mario is pretty hard, maybe even too hard for a 5 year old.
I used to play Super Mario when I was 5 ...
I did better on it than I would now

Thank you all for the input. This helps me go in to the store with a clearer idea of what I need to get.

                          For You:

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess - It's not a full on RPG, but it's Zelda!
Metroid Prime Trilogy - Great FPA (First person adventure) Part 2 is hard as hell!
Resident Evil 4 Wii Version - Play this one after the kids go to bed. No knowledge of the first 3 are required to get into the story.

                          For the kids:
Kirby's Epic Yarn - Two player co op, you can NOT die. Graphics are gorgeous.
Super Mario All Stars - A collection of Super Mario 1-3 plus the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2. Start them out on the classics. I was playing these when I was their age!
Donkey Kong Country Returns - This one is challenging, but it is co op, and you can play as Donkey Kong, when the going gets rough, you're partner can jump on your back and you can do the work! I play this with my 3 year old all the time.
Super Mario Kart Wii - Great family fun! 4 players at once.
Super Smash Bros Brawl - A fighting game that is simple to learn, but takes years to master. 4 players can beat the crap out of each other, or team up and fight the computer.

You also have the entire Gamecube library to choose from as well. Some great titles. Beyond Good And Evil. All the Zelda/Mario/Metroid games are winners.
You can also connect to the internet and download most any old nes/snes/N64/genesis/turbo graphics game.

Well for me the WII was a good option for our younger kids, and quite frankly I am not much of a gamer anymore so I don't care. The other thing is it is one way to move more towards internet only tv service as I am looking to drop all dish/direct/time warner/ services in the next year so I am upgrading so that each tv can have something like that on it to get internet video and netflix direct to them. No more TV bill basically other than netflix membership.

Yeah but at the price of the Xbox I can setup a Linux Box with MythTV for less. Just saying. The reason I grabbed the wii is it was on a black friday combo deal with a 32" samsung LCD tv.
