Be sure to get one of the alternate (non-motion) controllers. Then you can play all your favorite old N64 games or from any other platform. You can download (cheap) any SNES/genesis/gamecube/N64 game right from the Wii.

Honestly playing old gameboy and SNES games is the only value the Wii has for me.

Or you could install the homebrew channel and play roms. I'm thinking of getting a second Wii just for this.

We have both a Wii and a PS3. The PS3 is obviously more advanced for serious gamers, but the Wii is just plain fun. As an adult, but casual gamer, I enjoy them about equally well. The big advantages of the PS3, to me, are the built-in Bluray disc player and the 1080p output. I will play the Williams Pinball Collection game for hours. But, I will also play the bowling game in Wii Sports Resort for hours.
