A most humble introduction from an ex smoker, new snuser...

    Hejas all,

New snuser here, I've posted in a couple threads already, but thought I'd make something a bit more "official" introducing myself. There seems to be a lot of threads covering "what comedians do you like?, where you from?, what do you do for a living?, etc... so I'll try and grab all those in one fell stroke., Name's eli, and I live in Portland oregon, I'm currently using the Camel snus product and anxiously awaiting my first shipment of "the real deal", currently I'm on my 7th day without cigarettes with no intention of looking back.

I work in High tech as a software qa engineer and lab admin/sysadmin/whatever-you-wanna-call-it-admin for windows and *nix systems. Before this I was in the US military, spending most of my time in Europe (one of my best friend's girlfriends was Swedish and I never heard of snus till camel started marketing them here!). The military is where I got hooked on Nicotine and smoked/chewed. After leaving the military I left the chew behind (hated the spitting all the time) and pretty much smoked exclusively for the past decade or so. I'm trying to quit smoking for my daughter's sake as well as my own (I have a 2-year old who's the ligh o' my life). I'm also incredibly hooked on Nicotine (I think I've tried to quit cigarettes over a dozen times in the last ten years and this snus trip has been the longest I've gone without one).

When not working or dealing with all the fun family things I enjoy playing boardgames and wargames with my friends, snusing has been great for this activity as now there's no reason to stop playing for a cigarette break!). I also watch a heap of movies, putter around in the kitchen, and drink a little more beer than is healthy for me... living in the pacific northwest means learning to appreciate good beer, my current favorites in that arena are Stone IPA and Arrogant Bastard (from Stone brewing), Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Cinder Cone Red Ale (Deschutes Brewing).

As for Comedians, my current favorites are Joe LaJoie, Dane Cook, Jim Gaffigan, Geroge Carlin, Bill Hicks and Jon Pinette.

I'm anxioulsy awaiting the new 'round o' comic book-based movies (Hellboy II, Iron Man, the new Hulk film with Ed Norton, etc..), but my tastes in movies is all over the board... Apocalypse Now and The Princess Bride are two of my all-time favorite movies.

Musically I'm all over the board, although I tend toward the humorous regardles of the particular genre. I do like juxtaposition cover tunes a lot, like Punk Covers of 80's songs, Country Covers of gangster rap, etc....

Hope to be a more active participant here as my snus experience broadens. Happy to find this great forum!

      Gah.

      I must be going nuts.

Last week I placed a snus order, checked the status, shipped friday.. it feels like I placed the order, AGES ago.

I've got these camel snus, but am just too hyped to try the "real" stuff.

dangit! I want my instant gratification, and I want it now!

ok, vent over, back to your regularly scheduled snus forum.

Rest assured that when my order arrives I'll be posting here with a quickness (right after I decide just which portion to pop in. My first order was all portions, although I've already ordered five cans of loose and a prismaster (can't validate spending the money on an icetool just yet, but if I start using a significant quantity of loose it seems like a good investment) because I want to try out loose as well.

So, speaking of that, I think I've narrowed down which tins I am going to crack open first, but any further input would be much desired...

          In no real order:
General Onyx Portion - rave reviews throughout this site makes this a must try, right away.
          Nick and Johnny strong portion
          Lucky Strike Original portion
          Skruf Cranberry portion
          Ettan portion
          CatchDry Eucalyptus white mini portion
          Grovsnus portion

Now I don't want to open THAT many tins.. so if i could narrow it down to 3 or four.... (if you want to see the rest of what's in the order, it's Norther's 20-tin portion mix http://www.swedish-snus.com/en/usd/s...us_mix_portion )

Onyx...Be sure to fluff up the pouch for your first try. Like rolling a cig. Also remember this is a dry/white style (although black in color) so you may want to lick it first. I'm telling you this snus is so tasty that I've found myself sucking a hole in the bag on several occasions.

Welcome to the board :^) Here's my suggested order starting with Onyx, as you've already made up your mind. These are assuming you only open 3 cans at a time, but you'll have them all open before a week's out :^P

              General Onyx Portion
              CatchDry Eucalyptus white mini portion
              Ettan portion
              Grovsnus portion
              Nick and Johnny strong portion
              Lucky Strike Original portion
              Skruf Cranberry portion

I would go for the ettan or grov as they are pretty representational of all portion snus. The onyx and johnny are good although quite 'rich'.

As for skruf tranbar, I would just throw that in the bin the second you get it :P Just kidding, I find them a bit chemically but I know plenty of others who like them.

Cool, thanks for the advice, I could throw the ettan or grov in the first round of sampling...

So, how's this look for the first four:
                    Ettan
                    General Onyx
                    Lucky Strike Original
                    Skruf Cranberry

I think this will give me a good range of more traditional snus with a single flavored thrown in for variety (and probably the flavor I'll enjoy the most of the flavors included in the sampler... anyone want to trade for some licorice portions? I already know I probably won't be a fan...)

Wow, my snus arrived today from northerner and I've got my first Ettan portion in, I'm about 5-10 minutes into this thing and the first hit I got was a strong earthiness, almost unpleasantly so, this was followed by a slight salty gush then an intense pepper taste, now it's settling in and I'm getting tobacco, pepper, a touch of tartness and the earthiness is much more pleasant. All in all, I'd say, so far, so good. I've got the "first four" all sitting in my fridge with the other 16 cans stashed in the freezer (in a double zip-top with all the air sucked out).

I wanted the first one to be the "original" so I figured Ettan was the best of the batch for my first true swedish snus. Feeling a mild nicotine kick as well, very comfortable level though.
