I've been saying this for years Justin, and everybody calls me a dumb ass. The American dream is just an illusion. Try to keep everyone fat and happy, and maybe they won't see what's really going on.

I don't think the US has any leg to criticize any other nation, with our mass poverty, unemployment, rampant crime, robberies, murders, rapes, day in day out, we need to fix this nation first before we can point a finger at anyone else.

shit Rick, don't try and BS us......you are just getting in shape so you are ready for that "next" Mrs. Charles.

I do my best to buy American. Fiestaware, Lodge cast iron, Lamsonsharp, Weber grills. I don't even look at electronics. Not much hope there.

I remember sometime when it was 6 trillion and thinking wow that is a lot.
My thoughts now are who care's? If it has doubled or tripled since then it will just go even higher in the future as we grow.
Is there really a ceiling on this?

Same here. I have a trip to vegas planned for July and I plan on losing some of this weight i've put on. I am restricting the shiat out of my calories and switching from processed foods to all fruits/vegetables/small amounts of meat, and then working out every other day. Hopefully I can lose something by july! I'm only 24 but I swear I used to be so skinny and yet now I can't seem to lose weight.

A reminder that Americans have put such people and power and continue to elect those who support such horrible things, so the blame isn't wholly on that of the US government, but also on its constituents too.

To be honest I don't think that is entirely fair. The whole system, which influences citizens from cradle to grave, is built around maintaining the status quo. There are no rules that there be only 2 parties, and yet we see that everyone on all sides is constantly voting for 1 of 2 parties.

Why you ask? Because the government, as well as other interests, work hard to keep the media saturated with disinfo and manufactured outrage. Have you noticed that some mornings you wake up and the whole nation is upset about something, and you wonder how they all magically woke up on the same page this morning? Like it's almost as if someone had written a memo stating what today's reason for outrage is, then faxed it to everyone in their party as talking points.

People share some of the responsibility, but people only know what they are told. When the government is enforcing a culture of disinfo, how do you expect people to be informed and therefore make good decisions regarding their elected officials? We are a nation filled with educated individuals who have an emense amount of knowledge at their disposal, but almost 0 understanding. To quote Ronald Reagan, "It's not that they are lying, it's just that they know so much that isn't true."

But this concept is as old as time. All leaders have always known that the masses are easly swayed, that public opinion is easily altered, and that "truths" are always maleable.

No that is entirely false. If this were a properly functioning republic than perhaps it would apply here, but it does not.

You tell me to pick a color, but my only choices are two shades of grey. Then when I bitch that I don't like grey, and I wish I could have instead voted for green, all we hear is that greeen "is not a viable color", and "a vote for green is just a wasted vote, and therefore a vote for the enemy". They tell you that the appropriate thing to do would be to vote for the shade of grey which best represents your greenish stance on things. Sure you can vote for green, but the shades of grey win every time.

And on top of that, good people can't get elected. Elections are all about how much money you've got to spend on the campaign, and the barrier to entry is too high. Now with corporations jumping into the campaign funding frenzy, it raises that barrier even higher.

I don't have the option, nor have I ever had the option of voting for someone I actually wanted to vote for. Because the kind of people most Americans would vote for are essentially barred from running for election.
