    Revolution!

So following the (successfull?) revolution in Tunesia this last week, Egyptians are now rioting, and it is officially being called the start of a revolution. The dictator is there for life, barring some military coup or something, but the revolution has begun.

Many fear that the Muslim Brotherhood will take control of the government once the current regime has fallen, which would be even worse than the dictator ruling the country now.

They have shut down the internet, twitter, and utilized all other obligatory dictatorial information lockdown techniques at their disposal. Some are still getting info out using proxies, similar to what happened in Iran. Apparently the government is way smarter than Tunesia, and has ever gone as far as to broadcast announcements that the government has fallen, in hopes that the protesters will think they won and then they can strike them when they least expect.

The Muslim Brotherhood can be expected to be the main beneficiaries of any Egyptian "revolution". The Tunisian revolution was not aided and abetted by Islamists but you can bet the MB is in the thick of whatever is going on in Egypt. The Botherhood has been one of the chief fomenters of Islamism, and Pan-Arabism, going back a century. If they ever topple the Mubarak regime the Middle-East will be once again in turmoil. The IDF are doubtless tuning up Merkava engines, check-listing Baraks, lubing up artillery tubes, and making sure ammo is stacked neatly as we speak.

Eh I never understood how dictatorships fall anyways, I doubt the government will get overthrown, on the one hand they can't just shoot everyone like they would in china or burma which is probably a good thing so this might go on for a while.

I understand that these will probably be rubber bullets but three protesters have been killed.

Earlier on Reddit someone was posting from within Egypt, and said the body count was higher, but not super high. I think it was like 30 people or something. Apparently the riot police are the ones exacerbating the violence here, as the only violence happens where the riot police are heavy according to this person.

"reddit a revolution is starting strongly in Egypt, we need your help to get the word out, the government is controlling the media nothing is going out. "

"I'm in Cairo, virtual blakout of news here too. The mobiles of everyone downtown are blocked with police jammers. No one can communicate out, we can only get calls from people who have left the scene."

The police look mad enough to try and move them on. I have no idea why they want to move them on - seems like a risky and dangerous strategy to me given the strength of feeling.
At one point I thought the police were going to get ripped a new arsehole.

For those who are worried about finding themselves in a country during a revolution, where the powers that be are censoring the internet, here is the go-to instructions on how to circumvent government censors (like how they did in Iran when things got hot last year).

              Handbook for Bloggers and Cyber-Dissidents

EDIT: Before LX or someone says something, this manual is made so it can be distributed and ANYONE can learn to disguise themselves online. I know there are more technical ways, but this just covers using tor and proxies etc. Best for the masses.
