You would think that yeah, but when it happens, and it's someone you know and love (and you know it's someone you know and love), the fear just isn't there.

I have heard about it before, and have these sometimes, but only in a mild form that I can't move/feel my arms. At first I figured that I might have lay on them, but when it happened again with both of my armes I figured out it had to be some sort of form of sleep paralysis, since my sleeping position isn't so weird that i sleep on both of my arms. It was freakishly scary though the first 2 times. But now it happens to me like once every month or two. But after about 30 secs/1 minute I get my feeling and ability to move back.

Ya know, these visions sometimes reminds me a LOT of my DMT trips... Hmm. Ever read the book DMT: The Spirit Molecule?
I've been wanting to read this book. Theres another one by either the same or a similar author about the ayahuaska (sp?) plant to the same effect that i've also been meaning to pick up.

My question has always been, why is there even a DMT squirter in your head? Why is the body prone to halucinations when tkaing certain plants etc etc. Why is there an evolutionary need to have visions. That's why question.

hallucinations are usually drug induced.... but people with psychosis frequently have them ....

I don't know how to answer your question ...I don't think there is an evolutionary need to have visions.... there is certainly a chemical imbalance in the brain that is causing them........ alcoholics have them frequently too ....

the only type of hallucinations I've had (thank god) were olfactory and that was from too much alprazolam (xanax) ... took it for three years.... damn that is a nasty shit..... I used to smell things that weren't there....... such a shit .... foods ... and weird perfumes ...

Here's another example, I think in psychosis these occur....

            General Somatic Sensations
General Somatic Sensations of a hallucinatory nature is experienced when an individual feels that his body is being mutilated i.e. twisted, torn, or disembowelled. Other reported cases are invasion by animals in the person's internal organs such as snakes in the stomach or frogs in the rectum. The general feeling that one's flesh is decomposing is also classified under this type of hallucination

Don't worry about it. You will get used to it. It happened to me last night too. I was more awake than usual though, and, like always, couldn't move a muscle. It's uncomfortable for sure, but a hell of a lot better than severe leg cramps that wake you from peaceful sleep with excruciating pain, right? Ever had that? It happened to me for the first time a while back and jesus, I would rather just about anything else happen to me while I sleep, short of serious bodily harm and/or penetration.

I have never experienced this "sleep paralysis" thing you guys are talking about. Sounds a little crazy to me, I'm betting its just a dream. I have had the leg cramp thing happen a handful of times. I wind up having to leap out of bed and jump around until the blood flow gets back to normal. Scared my girlfriend half to death one time - the look on her face was priceless.

Sorry to retort based purely on personal experiences but trust me... it is not a dream. Here, read about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis
