    Netflix ISP performance measurements

This link has some interesting charts comparing bandwidth performance between various ISPs in the US and Canada:

    http://techblog.netflix.com/2011/01/...-networks.html

Unfortunately they don't break out by technology. Providers that offer both DSL and FiOS show a lower score than cable providers that do not have any DSL customers.

Neflix is doing this because the ISP's don't like that Netflix gets to use so much bandwidth and yet pays the same toll as every one else. So they are trying to push back against netflix, in an attempt to collect every penny of profit that they can. Netflix is retaliating by nudging their users towards certain ISP's which are friendly to their services, hence the list about which ones work best.

I hate NetFlix. just because hardly anything streams in HD. Some folks dont mind, and I'm not an "HD Snob" or anything, but my damn TV is 65 inches - anything under 720p looks like the old Atari games - all blocky and pixellated and sh*t. I'm sure its probably better on smaller screens, but is just plain unwatchable on mine.

Why the fu*k can't we get Hulu Plus on the PS3 anymore, without hacking it or using the crappy "workaround" software(s)?

I have 60 HD and know what you mean. I don't even watch SD shows anymore. Also not an HD snob as I can happily watch a movie on my iPhone but if I sit down to watch a movie on my big set I want it to look at least watchable.

I am watching Hulu Plus on my PS3 as I type this, using the app I downloaded from the PS store. What are you referring to?

Back on topic: I notice Comcast (the best ISP in the world) is #2.

Can you shrink the usable area on a big TV like you can with a computer monitor? For example, when games are too graphic intensive to run at 1920*1200, I usually change the games resolution to 1600*1200. I have my display setup not to scale, so that letterboxes the image on my display. I get full clarity, just a bit smaller. If you could do that with the TV, you could watch a smaller, but better looking picture.

I have a 60 inch and I don't recall ever seeing any movies in SD on Netflix. It always looks fine to me, but I may just be getting lucky in my random movie selections.

As for the Tv thing, I know you can change the display mode. So if it is too pixelated you can display it in it's native resolution. This makes it looks much better, but on a 60 inch television it only utilizes like 1/2 the tv size. Smaller picture better quality.

I have heard that Netflix is actually trying to get away from DVD rentals and switch entirely to online rentals. I haven't tried it yet but I am curious if people get results using their Wii to watch movies.

Also, I do realize I could shrink the screen . . . but I freakin' bought a ridiculously huge TV because I want to watch ridiculously huge movies. Why have a big screen if you're not gonna use it?

                    $9 a month just isn't worth it.
