Well I'm definitely no scientist, but I cannot imagine a species with that much power. I can't believe our universe is even old enough for a race like to evolve.
Stephen Hakwing supports M-Theory. It suggests an 11 dimensional universe where every possible reality in every possible universe is but a single point in space. As far as I understand it, it's not so much of an explosion as it is stretching and retracting of these weird membranes that make up the fabric of reality. Now, I'm not really sure what the hell that means, but it only makes sense when I hear Hawking or Kaku explain it.

My mind is open to a great many things, but I cannot and will not believe in a being looking down pulling the cosmic strings.

It isn't supposed to be logical. That is your problem.

Ye....no I don't think it's a problem. It's as if you would like me to give up and say, "Oh well. Screw this whole science thing. We'll never figure it out anyway. Let's just say god did it and go get some taco's!"
I think it will all make perfect sense. It's just that right now we don't even know which questions to ask. No offense, but I think explaining all of reality away just by saying that god wanted to show off and make some people for no other reason than to worship him...that's a problem my friend.

I don't subscribe to the big bang theory really. One question I have about the big bang is where was it. If we postulate that everything expanded outward from a single point then we should be able to at least mathematically locate that point. Sure, during an explosion all matter is not ejected equally but we should be able to come close to the center of the universe. I've also read that it may contract back to that single point eventually (or maybe it already is)...even more data.

Perhaps another fault of humans is our cognitive ability. We have this notion that everything has a beginning and an end. We believe in boundaries too, like if there's an edge of the universe then there must be something on the other side of that edge. If the universe "began" then what was before it began? What happens when it ends? I can see how religions create answers to questions like this or at least the comfort in not having the need to know...just have faith. Well that's good for some...others say ignorance is bliss...I don't know.

Can things just "be"? Gravity is one of those things. I believe that electricity is too. Once I had a thought that maybe God is gravity but then again there was a whole load of Liberty Caps in my belly at the time. Without any sort of gravity we could not exist. Without electricity ever I don't think that there would be any magnetism either. We need that too to live or at least protect us from our own sun. It could be entirely possible that the energy released from other stars would contain no harmful radiation. Our sun would kill us quite quickly be there no magnetic field to shield us from it's radiation. Other planets near ours don't have the churning cores of the correct materials to create the field necessary for us to survive though it has been proven that there are strains of bacteria that remain unharmed by solar radiation, the vacuum of space, and the extreme temperatures. Those (and other) bacteria (life) MUST exist else ware. At least I have faith that they do.

I don't think that there's a reason for you or me [specifically] to be here...to learn something. I think it's more due to mutations, and natural selection. Soon it will be due to unnatural selection but that might not be a bad thing. I'd faster buy the notion that we were injected here from some other place. If that were the case then there would be a reason but my guess is that it's more accidental than anything else. Maybe coincidental is the better word.

These threads are making my brain tired.

I agree. I think for all the theories and energy expended trying to find the answers to the universe, in the end it doesn't matter. The physical body will eventually die, and afterwords something will happen. We can speculate until that day comes what that "something" is, but in the end, "something" will still happen.

In all the years I have had arguments with people (back in my younger days when I thought my opinion mattered) and later years when I stopped arguing and just listened to the different theories, my own beliefs have never changed. One thing I do believe is this; what people believe does have an effect on how they live their lives. So while I feel in the end it doesn't matter, I do believe the research and theories are important for the living. Different religious beliefs for instance have caused both violence and peace for centuries. If some day a definitive answer is ever reached, I still don't think it will sway people's beliefs. People believe what they believe and spend their lives either trying to convince people they are right (sometimes forcibly) or trying to convince themselves they are right (through dialog).

So while my own beliefs haven't changed, I do appreciate seeing the diversity of theories and opinions expressed here, so thanks for that.

There's no point to anything, it just is. We're too undeveloped to even discuss it at this point. It may be fun and useful, but we're almost certainly 100% wrong. My personal theory on the universe, is it's one of many, and they're interconnected in a larger organization. In other words, a "universe" is the "galaxy" of a larger system. We're just ants standing on a rock and looking at the universe and we have no idea what we're missing from our limited view.

I'm very much into philosophy, and my personal philosophy is largely influenced by Eastern spirituality, like Hinduism and Buddhism. To me, "God" is the all pervading energy of which everything is a manifestation of. We are "God", and "God" is us, and all. Everything is eternal energy, which vibrates and various levels. Nothing is ever added or removed, but rearranged, and everything is interconnected. We evolve in consciousness raising to higher level of vibration and dimensions. Every action has a reaction, which is karma, so everything we do, did, and even think, has a reaction that guides us a certain way, and when the body "dies", our level of consciousness and karmic bank creates the next manifestion of us to continue on where we left off.

Thats the way i think it is, nonduality. As Eckhart Tolle says there is one
spirit/conciousness in the universe. We are all a part of that. We are that
                      conciousness experiencing itself thru life.

Lets speculate. What do you think that something is?? Is there life after death?????

Ye this kind of like Descartes take on the human mind and our senses. Our understanding for the world is limited by or senses which are susceptible to errors. There can be millions of things buzzing around us that we can't comprehend because we haven't developed the necessary organs to sense them. Descartes also said something about are soul being located in the pineal gland. Interesting when you incorporate what we know about DMT and near death experiences. But in reality its impossible for us to prove anything.

Not trying to thread crap, or divert the thread from your wishes, but I don't think it's valuable considering what happens after death. What happens after death is unprovable. nobody comes back to tell us what it's about. It'll either be interesting, or nothing, and the only value in speculating is from a purely fanciful perspective; like watching a movie, or reading a book.
