I prefer single malts but Jameson and Bushmills aren't bad. If you are looking for something different though try Clontarf, Danny Boy, Kilbeggan, Red Breast or Greenspot.

Interesting, never had Jameson. Johnny Walker Black is decent, my favorite is Glenmorangie 18yr in scotch and usually drink Jack Daniels whiskey but will definitely have to try some Jameson.

Oh yeah I forgot about Tullamore Dew. It's pretty good too but I rarely drink it straight. Tullamore Dew + Baileys + Coffee = one kick ass Irish Coffee!

Speaking of Jack Daniels, My wife bought me a now vintage Jack Daniels Solid Oak Pundulum wind up wall clock 30 yrs ago and can't be found anywhere... I have people wanting to kill me for it... It's sweet... I need to post a pic for those that are JD Collectors... It keeps perfect time and the Pundulum can be adjusted to the nano second....

That's a sweet clock. I used to collect JD memorabilia when I was little. My prize is a brass oil lamp, with an etched glass chimney. I don't like the whiskey much though :^D

Coder, do yourself a favor and get something along with the Jameson so you can compare them. I find it utterly baffling that people drink Jameson by choice. I've easily had over 100 different whisk(e)ys, and Jameson is one of the few I couldn't drink. I ended up using it for cooking. I think a lot of it's popularity is loyalty to the Republic. Jameson is Republic made, and Bushmills is N Ireland. Bushmills makes the better whiskey though, especially Black Bush. Red Breast I /think/ is made by Jameson distillers, and it's vastly superior to Jameson... Of course it's a premium whiskey, so that's to be expected. It's a pure pot still, so it'll be a perfect example of what makes Irish whiskey Irish.

This explains why I like Bushmills. I dislike (to me) overwhelming smoke and peat.

I don't know if it is too late for recommendations, but you should get a bottle of tyrconnell. Jameson and bushmills are both good for low priced options (you can buy them around here for b/t 20 and 24 a fifth), but the tyrconnell is a great single malt, and not that much more expensive (around 40).

I was born and lived a short distance from the Bushmills distillery. You'd think I would like Irish Whiskey - I hate it.
Scotch Whiskey is in my opinion far superior but as lxs explained - Tullamore Dew ain't too bad. Jamiesons is too sweet and Bushmills turns me.

Having said that - I'm no whiskey expert but I do know that Crawfords five star is excellent. It's a Scotch.

I'm a big fan or Glenmorangie, it's a very good single malt, it's not too challenging, unlike something like Laphroaig where you can smell the smoke of burning peat bogs as soon as the stopper comes out.

I'm currently have a bottle of Talisker on the go, the single malt from Isle of Skye, which has a hint of peat and smoke, but not too overpowering.

At least I know I'm not the only one now. I have mentioned it before in the scotch threads and no one ever comments on it. At least I know there are two of us now lol
