    Kids TV shows.

They're not like they used to be. Granted, I don't mind watching Spongebob, I think it's funny.

But I'm bummed there's not a lot of shows like TMNT, X-Men, Thundercats, He-Man, stuff I grew up on....the old 80's Hanna Barbera stuff. Smurfs, all that. I wish they had a channel that showed TV shows like that.

I think one of the best parts about having a 4 year old is that I have a valid excuse to be watching cartoons all the time now.

The channel Boomerang shows all those old shows. That's mostly what my 4 year old watches, our DVD's of shows we grew up on. For example, I have the three TMNT movies, The Complete 2000's cartoon, and parts of the 80s cartoon. 4 year old goes over to DVD rack and pulls out the original and says, "Daddy, I want to watch the classic turtles."

Here in Vancouver we do have a toon retro that shows all the good stuff, personally I think most of the shows that are playing now are lame, of course they think I am an old man and don't understand, lol, when I "convince" them to switch to the retro channel they leave, well worth the try

Boomerang is pretty good and does cycle through some oldies but goodies. I have been collecting all the good cartoons/kids shows I can for my kid.... I even found all of the 1980s run of Mr. Wizard and You Can't Do That On Television.
Tv-Vault.me has some great classic tv..... Including blocks of MTV with commercials from the channels beginnings.

My girls are hooked on the Pink Panther. Boomerang is great for this. They actually prefer the old ones to the new ones. They also dig on The Smurfs, Tom & Jerry, and The Jetsons. I've never watched Spongebob 'cos the girls don't like it but they do like Phineas and Furb. That show is okay. They are beginning to move past those things now a little though. They're really only watching TV for about 2 hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A couple of times per week we do watch some other shows though. They are into iCarly and Victorious. These shows are ok, but they do have scenes in them that deal with relationships and stuff that I think is a little advanced.

You Can't Do That on Television was awesome. I don't see it on anymore. Remember Double Dare? That one was cool. They girls like game shows now too. The Hole in the Wall is one of their favorites as is Family Game Night.

I agree. The cartoons now-a-days are just hysterical, without finesse, and just plain boring and uncreative. I don't know, maybe the kids love that crap, and it's just us adults that don't understand, but I'd rather watch the old Spider-Man, He-man etc. than Bey Blade or what ever is playing now.

The updated look and "drawing" (90% computer animated) that most cartoons use now is also boring. The older quality of an old movie on a VHS tape is much more charming, or maybe it's just me being nostalgic... But you know what I mean?

                  I like Chowder.

My kids like all of the current nickelodeon shows. Some of them are edutainment...

I put on some old school Looney Tunes for the kids. My son was crying five minutes into it. He is five. I loved that stuff when I was his age. On the other hand, my daughter asked why the Daffy duck did not die when he was shot and proceeded to tell me that she would kill him, chop him up and cook him in a pot. She is three.

aw man, you are right chad. Even though I am a lot younger than you, I still watched the flintstones, spider man, scooby, jetsons, tom and jerry as a child. Todays shows are just stupid.

I agree 100%. I still have a ton of original VHS cartoons, the fuzz, the little glitches, the sound of a VHS, it's like vinyl to me, it's refreshing.

Also, the hand drawn animation meant much more. To know it was drawn, frame by frame....computer stuff is just lazy. I read somewhere that they can turn out a movie in Pixar quality in a few months. It took 3 years to make Snow White. That's craftsmanship right there

Yah, I recently went to a family members house to watch a blue ray DVD. It was WORSE than an old movie, it was TOO crisp. You could CLEARLY see what was special effects and what was real, things were not blended as well. Also it didn't look like a movie anymore, it looked like I was watching an actual event, like in real life. Surprisingly, this is apparently not what I want in a movie. When I watch a movie, it's like you said Chad, that low resolution and fuzzyness is like vinyl, it adds to the whole experience.

I was amazed, I mean it was super high resolution, but that made it too easy to point out inconsistencies, and the special effects popped out way too much. Things I wouldn't have noticed were fake were GLARING. I dont know if it's just me, but it almost made it a lame movie watching experience.

Umm, Chad. The reason you don't like the shows is because they are not for adults...
