Patriot Act Fails Vote, Fascists Vow To Try Again, Obama Says DeRP...

Lets hope freedom wins, but I'm not holding my breath. Keep an eye on who's voting on what. You'll see who's selling you out to governmental control.

House Republicans suffered an embarrassing setback Tuesday when they fell seven votes short of extending provisions of the USA Patriot Act, a vote that served as the first small uprising of the party's tea party bloc.
The bill to reauthorize key parts of the counterterrorism surveillance law that expire at the end of the month required a supermajority to pass under special rules reserved for noncontroversial measures.
But it fell short of the required two-thirds after 26 Republicans bucked their leadership, eight of them freshman lawmakers elected in November's midterm elections. With most Democrats opposing the extension, the final tally was 277 members in favor of extension and 148 opposed.

The patriot act is a real hard blow to the basis of what this country was founded upon, our constitution, and general freedom. If 'they' want it to be extended, it will be, no doubt. Most people dont even realize the extent of what it permits.

Shouldn't misuse the word Fascist though. Might as well say Amish.

Fascism, , is a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology. Fascists seek to organize a nation on corporatist perspectives; values; and systems such as the political system and the economy
a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government (as opposed to democracy or liberalism)
A political regime, having totalitarian aspirations, ideologically based on centralized government, government control of business, repression of criticism or opposition, a leader cult and exalting the state and/or religion above individual rights. ...
a philosophy or system of government that advocates or exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, together with an ideology of belligerent nationalism Father:

"Amish" doesn't come close, but the above definitions do. Fascism doesn't only speak German or Italian, sometimes they speak English, but keep their mouths shut to fly under the radar ;^)

Never really looked at the voting numbers because it always seems to pass but damn, good for Democrats for the high no votes. Glad to also see the Tea Party and Post Ron Paul types also standing their ground.

Taken from it's source, I don't see anything bad with real Fascism.

LOL, don't get too excited about the recent Patriot Act vote. It only failed because they want to extend it for longer than through the end of this year.

The Patriot Act will be brought up for a vote again in the near future where it will be passed. The procedure that was used this time required 2/3 vote; next time it will be a simple majority vote.

Obama wanted them to extended it to Dec. 2013.
26R 122D voted against the extension, 67D 210R voted for. It needed a 2/3 vote to pass (this time)
Rand and Ron Paul are the major Republican opposition to the bill.

There's nothing really wrong with communism either, as long as people act honorably. The problem is the in the way it's implemented. Concentrated power is rarely good. A dictatorship /can/ be the best form of government, but it rarely is.

I saw an interesting take on this on Facebook, to the effect that the far left and the far right teamed up to defeat something that was wanted by the center. I understand this, but I consider myself to be centrist and I was also against the extension (in the interest of liberty).

The democrats have supported the patriot act 100% since it was first dreamed up. They didn't vote no on this bill, they werely struck down this extension because it was too short, a vote for a longer extension is coming up and they want to vote yes on that one. Trust me, the patriot act isn't going anywhere. As long as democrats or republicans are in charge there will always be a patriot act.

Democrats voting no on this is just for show, makes people think they are against it. Really they have voted for it every time and been staunch supporters of it, so this is really just a ploy to get it extended longer than people are expecting. Don't be fooled and think that suddenly Obama has decided he wants to give power back to the people.

The tea party types like Ron/Rand Paul have always been against the patriot act. Only the democrats and republicans want it there. They are the true fascists.

An ammendment to my statement, I did not mean to imply that the tea party is the good guys here, but rather than Ron Paul was. The tea party voted as such:

44 'Tea Party Caucus' Members voted to renew Patriot Act
