My kids wanted a guinea pig...

So my kids come to me and the wife and ask us if they can have a guinea pig. They had obviously been planning this for awhile, because they knew exactly what they wanted, and they said the magic words, "we'll pay for it". So we told them that we'd think about it and let them know the next day.

We are now the proud owners of a teddy bear guinea pig, lol. I bought a nice cage cheap on E-bay and all the supplies at Wal-Mart, so we're not into this pet for very much coin. I was pretty indifferent to this guinea hog at first, but for whatever reason this damned thing loves me. Every time I get near it, this thing starts whistling and making a purring noise. She walks right up to me and wants me to pick her up, it's pretty cute really. Oddly enough, I started out not giving a shit about this animal, and now I kind of like her...we named her Nutmeg due to her color.

I'm going to make the kids clean the cage though, lol

I used to always have a guinea pig when I was younger. Other than how smelly their cage gets in a hurry they are good pets, especially for kids. They are not very easy to accidentally hurt and they don't bite. I was quite fond the the little critters back in the day.

I have chinchillas now but would never recommend them for kids, but they are great pets for older kids and adults.

It´s good for kids to have pets. They love them and they learn something about responsibility.

But be careful Rick. Having said yes once you could soon end up with having a whole zoo at home

            they're adorable!

            Congrats! :^)

I've had three so far, and this one is the oldest I've had..... she is 5 years old

They aren't that expensive to raise.... I spend at most $50 - $70 a month for everything ..... hay .... vegetables..... "cricetti" this is some kind of special food for rodents ..... :^)

And yeah pets are great for kids..... their responsability grows I know that I get to clean the cage every two days and feed her daily and it's quite a task, lol.

            Introducing PEET :^)

            :^)

When I was a kid, my brother had one and it got ring worm and some other illness and he convinced my parents to pay $300 to take it to the animal hospital...the damn thing cost $20 haha

LMAO, yeah that will NEVER happen in this household. It would mysteriously die of "lead" poisoning before it get's taken to the vet for ringworm.
