And they're FREE over-the-air stations ---- NO cable required!!
I like Antiques Roadshow every now and then. I also like NPR and really enjoy listening to Cartalk.

You're right ... Antiques Roadshow is the cat's meow (talk about an antiquated term!).

I actually enjoy the AR promos, too.

I love that show. Ed O'Neill is the best part. And Cam, he's funny as shit.

There used to be a real cool show on TV called Connections. I think it was a BBC show and it showed you how certain items evolved through history. I haven't seen it on in years though.

This is why I have DVDs of the Tim & Eric Show, and the Andy Milonakas show.

                Holy crap GV!!!!

I thought I was the only one who watched that show! It was absolutely fantastic

The guy would start with something like an ink pen, a light bulb, and some chewing gum and then going back to a time in the dark ages he would show how the technologies that lead to each object contributed to the Modern subway system..........or some such stuff

                It was great.

I thought it was on the Learning Channel.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I've seen a lot of articles about people ditching their cable/satellite in favor of using Hulu, Netflix Streaming, etc. They say it works, unless you watch a lot of sports.

Sports seems to be the bugaboo with many people...

A friend of mine has cable just for the sports, specifically the on-demand and the game replays.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the exorbitant price for what ends up as little-used features.

An example: He's very emotional when it comes to the NE Patriots so he seldom watches an
actual game; or if he does watch and they're playing poorly he'll turn the TV off. If they end
up winning he'll watch the replay; if they lose then he'll skip the replay completely and
consider his BP to be better for it. Other NE teams don't rankle him as much. Go figure!!

Oh, I believe he also has streaming Netflix for his stepdaughter.

You got it. I looked it up and the host was James Burke. I really wish I could find more shows like that. The show kept you in amazement from start to finish.

I cancelled my satellite subscription years ago. Just a waste of money for what I watched on it. Never watched any live sport, never watched any movies because the free ones were either old, rubbish, or I owned the dvd.

I'm happy with freeview - and even on that I probably only watch about 10% of the channels at most. As long as I can get the BBC and Channel 4, I'm happy.

There are shows on satellite I know I'd enjoy, but I refuse to give Murdoch a penny of my money when he's turning out biased trash on his news channels.

There was another cool one about a guy who traveled to other countries and showed you how they made their booze. Can't remember the name of it though.
Sounds like Thirsty Traveler on PBS

Don't watch much but when I do it is TV Land. Older is always better. New stuff is just garbage, Stewie Griffin should be the poster child for planned parenthood, or retroactive abortion.
