    OSX Falls First - PwnToOwn

Mr. Miller sums up OS X security the best, with his famous remark, "Mac OS X is like living in a farmhouse in the country with no locks, and Windows is living in a house with bars on the windows in the bad part of town."

It isn't mentioned in this article, but IE8 was hacked also. Firefox is next. We'll see how it does...

If the farmhouse is in the country, it's less likely to get robbed. Burglars in the city, however, can cut window bars with relative ease. Thus, OSX is better than Windows.

Hmm... That analogy doesn't really work. Around here, it's the isolated places that get hit. You can get in and out without anyone seeing you. If I had valuables, I'd feel safer in a fortified ghetto than out in the country. You could cut through the side of a house with a chainsaw, and no one would be around to say anything about it.

The analogy about the farm is very true, but that doesn't influence my decision to use apple. Regardless of the reasons behind it, Apple has less security issues.I know they are less secure than windows but none of that matters if no one is targeting them. For the last 20 years Windows has been getting hacked while Mac has been MUCH less affected by malicious shit. This has led to an environment where Mac's are just simpler to use, therefore I will use it. If things change and people start targeting mac instead of windows, than I may switch back to windows.

Functionally the Mac has less problems and therefore gets my money.

What browser do you use? I can't remember if it was this article, or not, but The Chrome hacker was a no show. Google likely patched the holes he was was going to use to attack it. To early to tell for Firefox, but Chrome would be a better choice than Safari. They've hardened it better than Apple has.

I use safari here but normally would use firefox or chrome, probably chrome since I don't need all the extensions and fancy stuff. I'm not real huge on security to be honest, i've never really had a problem and I back all of my shit up to removable hard drives and online so i'm not worried about losing stuff anymore. I learned from my last computer lol.

One day we are going to wake up and realize that every single person's identity has been stolen

Then the crooks are going to sell those identities

and we're all going to be somebody else
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

Firefox + NoScript + AdBlock is the safest way to surf, IMHO. All of the browsers have had 0-day exploits in the past and will again. Nothing but HTML and images are loaded by my browser unless I feel that I can trust the site serving it up. It takes awhile to get used to it, but it's worth it for the extra peace of mind.

Iphone and Blackberry fall. Windows and Android unchallanged

Apple uses a radical faith based security system which means you have to believe that your phone will never be hacked and convince other people that it is totally secure. It is a system which was derived from the Mac and has proved very successful.

The reason why Mac haven't been targeted much is because they are still in the 5% of desktop/laptop users world wide, if i was to hack a specific OS it wouldn't be the bottom 5% that would just be a waste of time especially if i was a hacker trying to make a name for my self.

Now if one was to attack the mobile market... LOL

but then again... i do hate mac/apple. Perhaps this could be my next project. Find an exploit and make the tiny apple market crumble under my feet... or i could just pack a pris into my lip and not care.

I know, that's what i'm saying, I don't care why they don't target them but the end restul is that they don't, resulting in a better experience for me. It doesn't matter if windows is more "Secure" if it's always being targeted. If Mac started getting targeted I would just switch to linux or something, the point is that functionally Mac is a better product because no one tries bothering it which makes the end user experience much better.

That is like saying that because your car doesn't move it is ok that your bumper is made of play-dough? Is that how you ration paying twice what most of the market pays for computing?
