I really wasn't trying to make light of the situation..........I know storm surges and the likes can be deadly
The size of the waves just surprised me.....................so I figured I must be missing something.
Anyway let's hope this is the end of it
No worries Dog! Just thought I'd try to explain the local perspective on the situation. I tend to take the wave size preditions with the same amount of salt as weather predictions, which tend to be wrong a lot.

It really is a big deal. We have tsunami evacuation route signs all up and down the coast. There are tsunami siren towers all over as well. I live in Pacifica just south of San Francisco. In the lower areas of this town people where called by the Sheriff's Dept at 4am and told to evacuate. I woke up at 7am and noticed my mom had called 3 times. I got the message and checked out cnndotcom and turned on the radio. Watched the video from Japan for about 2 seconds when the radio said it was due to hit the west coast in half and hour! Woke up my girlfriend and said let's go! Packed up some stuff real quick and headed for the hills. I was afraid we would get stuck in traffic trying to get to higher ground, but it worked out.
Thank God it hit at low tide and didn't come onshore. Thoughts and prayers to those who were less fortunate.
If a REAL tsunami happened in the bay area, 3-6 feet of consistent water could cost billions in damage. Anyone ever been to treasure island? That shit is underwater if someone so much as spits into the ocean, they are like right at sea level and MUCH of the bay area used to be swamps that we have essentially just filled with sand and built over.
5 feet of water would devestate san francisco if it was a consistent 5 feet that kept moving further inland. Just the effects on traffic and transportation alone would cost billions, let alone the actual property damage that would occur.
I heard on the news some guy in CA died in the tsunami today, this idiot went swimming and got pulled out by the currents. I almost can't even feel bad for them.

I mean that wave on Hawaii five-o looked a hell of a lot bigger than 4 feet tall....................and I didn't see anybody fleeing.
Somebody help me here................what am I missing
And despite the bit of humor.............I really am serious...............I don't get this..................unless all the buildings in CA are under 2 feet tall how is this a problem
I mean it obviously is a problem.........but why?....................50 footers and I get it................3 footers.............neah.............not so much
Holy shit the water is up to our knees!!!!!!!!!!..........................Aghhhhhhh RUN!!!!!
Hey Dog I know I'm a little late jumping in here but I wanted to address your question. A five foot wave and a five foot tsunami are very different in that the latter has the momentum of a wave that travels at 500 mph across the entire Pacific. It has the potential to not just crash gently in the surf but travel miles inland and take everything it tosses up back out to sea
